Southerners still welcome in North East?

I'm a Sunderland supporter from South Shields living in Birmingham.

Lived outside the area all my adult life.

All I've had since coming on here today is HATRED.

Hi WestMidlandsmackem,

Don't take what is said on this board as gospel, especially if it was on PF.

It is sometimes known for its aggressive culture, and I wouldn't take this as representative at all of real life.

I'm confident the people of the North East above all are very welcoming people. I know loads of "southerners" who live in Sunderland and the wider region and don't have any issues.

I also don't get why people would be hostile to a South Shields exile you're still one of us really and even if you weren't, following the team is enough to make you part of the SAFC family.

I've hard skin, just find it extaordinary I'm not taken at face value, and dismissed out our hand.

I was born and bred in the North East and still family there. I'm thinking twice about going up to see them, might invite them down here.

As someone who's even further south than you and have been here most of my life I'd say this place is in the overall very good. I've had advice on here from everything from new attractions for my kids in the North East for when I visit, goodwood festival of speed and even had advice on getting the snip.

Try not to take things to personal. 99% of the piss taking on here is good natured and not meant nasty.

As for the North East. Its friendlier than the south west I can assure you of that mate.

Your thinking twice, not to go see family back home because a few negative comments on a message board?? Your definition of hard skin maybe questionable...

Thought you may need a hug
why would I want to hug you after you have made it clear I am no longer welcome in the North East of England?
Having lived away from the NE for 43 years I’m the wrong person to ask.
Why you commenting then?

I've got family, friends, work commitments down here. I love my last bit of living family in the North East to bits. Just tonight I've sent some of them surprise gift. I was planning on going back up after Easter. It's put me off.

Listen petal I’m not a councillor and I can’t give you any advice based on sketchy information.

There's nothing "sketchy" about what I'm discussing or my doubts about coming back to the North East . Ironic that after you've openly admitted you haven't been there for 43 years. I was up two years a go on a work thing and on the way back grabbed a shit load of stuff from Maxim Brewery on way back. I'm soooooo put off heading back home.
