Southampton in League 1

This, everyone who thinks Sunderland is undesirable should look around more, the south has as many shitholes as the north, it just costs more to live there.
Roker, and the seafront by the pier is a wonderful place to walk and have a coffee. May not suit your average footballer, but nice all the same

Remember when Southampton came back to the PL, from L1 with a team stuffed full of Academy graduates? In two years time (maybe even next season), our first team squad could contain Hume, Stryjek, Mumba, Embleton, Molyneux, Gooch, Honeyman, Watmore, Kimpioka and Maja. How good would it be to have a squad, the bulk of whom have grown up and learned to play at Sunderland?

And then we appoint Mark Hughes?:eek::eek:

When you look at the amount of pros of ours/mags/boro who stick around after the area cant be as shit as many make out.
We all know it's a beautiful part of the world. It should remain a well kept secret.

With hindsight, mebbes not. I hear that David Moyes is meant to be good (admittedly, it's him saying he's good).
Ive got a shotgun full of dogshit with his name on it.

thing is they dont stick around for long, any of the 3 teams would have to be in the top 7 of the PL to offset the location issue's,the area might only be 300 miles and 1 hours flight from london but it may as well be 3000,another issue what gets overlooked is that supposed great airport up the road,it is woeful despite what the retards say,so many players now are internationals flying allowa the place and that so called airport is a twat to get to from anywhere remotely off the beaten track, someone like oviedo could have an extra 10-12 hours hanging around compared to london, now times that by 5-10 times a year along with the colder winters etc and its understandable why many want to move.even local lads dont often stay up here look no further than Gazza and waddle

Waddles living in Sheffield n golfs with my plumber, hardly the french riviera.
Think Gazzas in Poole, not certain, nor is he.

Its an absute myth that southamptons team was full of academy graduates, they only use to play about 2

Don’t think there was many - Chamberlain and Lallana stand out. They had other players who went on to be canny like Jose Fonte and Schniderlin but weren’t academy graduates.

they sold a lot of academy graduates to fund the next stAGE..RIGHT FROM GARETH BALE ONWARDS..
Sunderland has only one disadvantage to its potential, its harder to get players to Sunderland than to other places, so we have to pay a bit more. At the same time, the nature of the area means we have to charge lower ticket prices,, so we have to spend more than most teams at the top level to get the same standard, and earn less per fan. But thats somewhat offset by us having more fans to go to games than other teams competing for the area of the table between 7th and 14th, which is where I believe Sunderland can be if they are run properly. That means the right manager and academy manger, directpr of football (southampton and leicester always have one of those I think) and commercial operation.

Lallana and Oxlade Chamberlain were the only regulars in their team from their academy in League One tbf

What academy players actually made it into their team though? Ward Prowse and Luke Shaw? Lallana. They used more academy players the season they came up but they were squad players. Les Reed’s recruitment is the reason they done aswell as they did. It’s a myth they have this fantastic academy
