South Shields fans

I'm from Shields but I'm a Sunderland fan. I know loads of people who go to watch them if we're not playing or are away. Same with Newcastle supporters who live in the area. I personally don't bother going, but I've got no problem if people want to take in a match at a decent level, have a nice afternoon out and help a local club.
I sometimes go and watch Pools if we're away and I've not gone. But if I ever did stop going to SAFC I wouldn't take up going to watch Pools home and away claiming to be a fan, which seems as though a lot of ex SAFC and mags now do at Shields.
Surely it's still true you cant change your Team

I’m not saying that, of course there’ll be some
But to use words like disillusioned and glory hunters is completely wide of the mark
Probably more like fans who are from South Shields who want to follow their local club which is arguably far more personal
Not for me but back in the day there was a lad on Facey kept banging on about safc right up to 2015

One day he started blowing smoke up SSFC's hoop which gave me a good excuse to block him

They supply a need for a certain type of supporter

None of my mates have. The only possible reason I could offer if some do, is due to the cost maybe? Disillusionment with the game at a higher level as a whole?

Fuck knows to be honest. I'm a Sunderland fan and always will be.

Just a bunch of newcastle fans who have become “disillusioned” with modern football and have tried to glory hunt and think it’s cool to support them. Evident last night of all the talk around Rafa, Bruce, the fake sheik, singing Shearer songs and the hate for the Sunderland players.

Change my mind.
So you not sponsoring them now then?:rolleyes:

Not Sunderland fans then ! Their new 'passion' for a non league team with money being hoyed at it shows them for what they are. If it goes belly up they'll have to find a new team to hang on to.
So if someone came to Sunderland and spent pot loads of cash trying to reach the top of the Premier league do you think the crowds would stay as they are now.

Do you think 75% of Shields fans there last night were ex-SAFC?
Don't know, don't care, I never quoted 75% all I said was I can think of loads of reasons why people would give up on Sunderland (or any other team).

Life's priorities change over the years. I've seen many a keen fan who would do all home and away games for a long period just pack in all together. It's their choice

Glad they've got out of our club and started following their own tbh. Now all they need is their own accent and they'll have an identity.

I don't think that is what they were chanting, they were pointing at an individual who was escorted away by police, and telling that person 'get out of our club'. That was my view of it anyway.

Don't know what caused the furore.
correct...but that doesnt get likes on here

That’s what I was replying to, and you decided to comment on it. Life’s priorities do change, but to be labelled as ex-SAFC is sad.

I have a season card for both. If games clash I go to Sunderland. My first Sunderland game v Bournemouth 1988, first Shields game v Evenwood Town 1995.

Obviously Shields games don't compare to Sunderland but in my opinion its not meant to. Its not better or worse, its just different. Couple of beers, not having to stand in a soulless concourse and not getting too worked up about result, its a relaxing afternoon out with your mates.

Some absolute rubbish being spouted unnecessarily on here. Most, if not all, South Shields fans live in the town or surrounding area. There are a lot of Newcastle and Sunderland fans who have transferred their allegiance to Shields because they've become disillusioned with high-level league football or because of the better match day experience. There's never any Newcastle/Sunderland arguments, everyone there is there to support South Shields. Yes, there will have been Newcastle fans amongst the crowd last night, but that's no different to normal Shields games and the banter/abuse was always going to happen.

For the record, I have a season ticket at Sunderland but will go to Shields home games when they don't coincide with ours.
