South Africa tour - Cape Town

I would guess the preceding Test to be at Centurion from 26th to 30th December.
Probably 3 days off and start 3rd January.
It's a three Test Series, 3 ODIs and 3 T20s between Dec and Feb, with England going to Bangladesh for two Tests in February

I'd expect the other SA Test starting before Xmas, say 18-22 Dec, or more likely 11-15 January.

It will sell out, loads couldn't get in on Day 1, tickets ( 200ZAR) going for around 5,000ZAR in 2020, but the capacity has been increased to 25,000 which should make it a bit easier.
I think around10,000 England fans were there last time.

Buy tickets as soon as they become available.
Book flights anytime and spend a few days either side of the expected dates, there's loads to do, it's one of the World's great cities.

I flew out on the NYE and landed NYD (was 6 miles above Cameroon to see in the NY), but wished I'd flown out a day earlier cos they reckon CT is a great place to see in the NY. I'm pretty sure every SA-Eng test has started on 2 January since they came back into international cricket. Cover both bases and fly out early, there's plenty to do and see. Table Mountain, Robben Island, Camps/Hout bay, Simons Town. Keep your wits about you like, especially in the city bowl area.

Get registered with the CSA website.

Cheers

I had (wrongly) assumed it would be easy to get tickets. As long as we get them straight away do you think we will be ok?

As @Paddy O'Dors says, join their supporters club and get them as soon as possible.
It was possible last time to pay £2 a month and it guaranteed you tickets, some of them free.
I can't see that option anywhere now
South Africa Ticketpro currently selling tickets v Pakistan, have a look there

Checking my emails, I bought tickets last time near the end of July.
Day one CT was the hardest. The other grounds nee bother at all.
As said, CT bigger capacity now.

Rather than start a new thread, for those who are in need of a 'proper' cricket fix and don't know...the South African equivalent of the CC is streamed live on you tube.

Games are here.

South Africa v England Test Series:

1st Test | 17-21 December | Wanderers, Johannesburg
2nd Test | 26-30 December | SuperSport Park, Centurion
3rd Test | 3-7 January | Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town

South Africa v England ODI Series:

1st ODI | 10 January | Boland Park, Paarl
2nd ODI | 13 January | Manguang Oval, Bloemfontein
3rd ODI | 15 January | Manguang Oval, Bloemfontein

The originally planned IT20 series has been removed from the schedule due to scheduling conflicts, and both parties are exploring opportunities to reschedule it at a later date.

Flights with Norse about £1k i'm told. Any chance of them being reduced? Not paying that to fly with a budget airline to South Africa

Many of the European carriers don't release their winter timetable til April/May so there won't be flights available on Skyscanner etc yet. I flew with Swiss Air (decent tbf) when I went in 2020. Via Zurich on the way there and Vienna on the way back with short stopovers (1-2 hours iirc).

Prices on BA, KLM and Swiss Air sites all absolutely extortionate for some reason. Ethiopian Airlines (ffs) looking the most reasonable

Also Kenya Airways business class comparable to BA Premium Economy.
Also a free stopover in Nairobi. Cheaper from Gatwick than Heathrow.
Economy worth a look too.

Didn’t fancy the layover in Ethiopia so we’re flying emirates from Newcastle and changing in Dubai (hopefully calmed down by then).

Was expensive like. Think we’ve paid £1400. In comparison when we did the West Indies the flight was about £600 for that!

Does it matter that much what airline you’re on? Flight times and price always the main things for me.

Probs the best ground on the planet for me (factoring in that it’s not full of silver spoons like Lords, so has some atmosphere). Jealous.

It's more the layover in Ethiopia which isn't great from what I've heard. Some mates went over to Cape Town for a T20 tournament a year or so back and they paid about £500 each for direct return flights with Norse. Was just looking forward to not having to change and for that price as well

It's got everything like. Great setting/views, grass banks, brilliant atmosphere. Cape Town is a brilliant city too to make a decent holiday aside from the cricket.

If that test in 2020 had been a few weeks later we'd have dipped out with the world going into lock down. Always think how lucky I was with that.
