Ben Stokes has been named in England's Twenty20 squad for next month's white-ball tour of South Africa.

The all-rounder missed the second half of the international summer to be with his father, Ged, who has brain cancer.
England will play three Twenty20s and three one-day internationals from 27 November, all behind closed doors.

Stokes, seamer Jofra Archer and all-rounder Sam Curran are in the T20 squad but will be rested for the one-day series.

All three have been playing in the Indian Premier League which is taking place in the United Arab Emirates and will return home from South Africa after the T20 series.

Captain Eoin Morgan, who is also playing in the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders, will lead England in both formats.

The team will travel to South Africa on 16 November, with games played at Cape Town's Newlands and in nearby Paarl.

They will be based in Cape Town and will train at Western Province Cricket Club, playing three intra-squad matches before the first T20.

The three ODI matches will count towards qualification for the 2023 World Cup in India.

Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced it will invest £1m in grassroots cricket.

The #Funds4Runs campaign, jointly funded with LV=General Insurance, will help support cricket communities impacted by Covid-19.

Clubs can register their interest on the ECB website.

Stokes, Archer and Curran not in the one day squad. Makes little sense unless they’re getting an early plane back after the T20s. If they’re still in the bubble and they all leave together surely they’d be better off playing

😴😴😴

So does Ben Foakes, who is constantly shat on by England. I'm assuming you also think masks don't work, covid is a hoax and we didn't walk on the moon?
A non sequitur if ever there was one.
Tall left arm seamers, like leg spinners, get preferential treatment in England selection. Nowt to do , in this instance, with his Surrey connection.

It's just the lazy thing to throw around. Along with all the "moneybags Surrey" crap despite the fact that us and Middlesex are hamstrung more than any other county by the salary cap is the whole "you have to play for Surrey to be called up" - how many years in a row was Rory Burns top run scorer in the Championship, or the piss poor treatment of Foakes, or Popey when he first game into the side, or the fact it took Sibley to move to Warwickshire before England started looking at him, etc.

Borthwick got in the England side whilst at Durham but didn't get a lookin while with us.

It's just lazy bullshit that gets thrown around that is so easily disproven

On the other hand Stoneman got into the England side when he went to Surrey yet never got a look in at any level when at Durham. As for the salary cap the home counties are given a "London allowance" giving them a higher salary cap. Personally I don't have a problem with Surrey poaching, they can afford it -they're just not very good at it!

The game times are canny barring that 8am on a Sunday start. Hopefully there will be good weather, whilst it’s snowing over here. Like to watch cricket when it’s freezing outside.

Topley's a perfectly respectable selection. It's mightily depressing that yet again England are not giving other finger spin bowler options a look in.

Moeen's shot. Another prime example today - golden duck, run out by miles off a free hit.

...

It also gives the team the opportunity to play some inter-squad games just to make sure that they sharpen up those white-ball skills before the series start. I’d like to wish the team and everyone involved all the best for the upcoming tour against England. I’m really looking forward to the summer ahead."

Quinton de Kock captains the team, having replaced Faf du Plessis as white-ball skipper at the start of the year.

The entire tour will be played behind closed doors at two venues at Cape Town and Paarl.

It kicks off with three T20s on November 27, 29 and December 1. The ODIs then take place on December 4, 6 and 9.

South Africa squad: Quinton De Kock (c), Temba Bavuma, Junior Dala, Faf du Plessis, Bjorn Fortuin, Beuran Hendricks, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Janneman Malan, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabriz Shamsi, Lutho Sipamla, JJ Smuts, Glenten Stuurman, Pite van Biljon, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne.

It’s ridiculous and you right a lazy cliche that’s used quite often actually ‘ he is only picked becuase he plays for a certain club’

I find it embrassing people coming up with shit craic like that!

Somebody just said similar on the Mark Wood thread!

The South Africa squad has a lot of names that I’ve not seen play to date. Anyone up on South Africa cricket help?
