Sounds like Cappello will be sticking with the youth

He cant win i agree, they moaned he didnt bring in the youth now he has there still at him for the result. Did they expect magic from these kids from the off like, its going to take time germany didnt just do it over night and neither will we.

Think you've missed the point

Picking the youth - great. Playing a shit tactic thats limited with no backup plan if it doesn't work? Not great

Or do you reckon we should give long ball more time?

Might have worked if someone like Bent was playing off Auntie Carol.

Would soon get sussed out by the better international teams.

I dont think it was a long ball game, i think some of the younger lads were paniced and started to go the easy route. Looked alot like us with jones in the team its an easy out. I thought carroll did well with the hoofballs at times last night. Its all new this i hope he sticks with the kids maybe even brings a few more in and works them into a team they get confident in. Id like to see wallcot played off the front his pace is scary but his crossing is shit i think he could be better used off a carroll or even a rooney.

That's the issue for me. He's stuck rigidly to 4-4-2 throughout his England career for better or worse then changed system completely to a 4-2-3-1, playing people out of position and in a system few of them are used to.

For me, Walcott is far better played in a more central role. His crossing is awful but his pace, as you say, is frightening and his finishing on the run is good.

Now you mentioned the players positions - Jags was in RB, Henderson was playing DM, Gerrard was too far forward - have I missed anything out?

If Albrighton had been on the right wing it could have been a more lively performance but he would be crucified for bringing in too many young'uns at once

England played like Sunderland have played for so long, 3 passes then a hoof..hopefully this type of football is a thing of the past at sunderland..:)

Milner is never a left winger at international level, Walcott is far too inconsistent.

Gareth Barry isn't even a footballer.

Set of twats man. They couldn't wait to get on their soapbox last night and say how wrong Capello got it. All of them bleating on about how wonderful France were and how far ahead of us they now are after an arguably worse World Cup.

They all failed to mention the fact France lost to Belarus in their opening qualifier not so long back.

The gulf wasn't massive. Malouda had it right - they were one goal better than us. And we're far from the finished article.

Maybe throwing the young lads in the deep end against a nation like France wasn't the best idea if you're looking for a result in a nothing friendly. But giving them their first test against a side like that could well benefit them when it comes to playing the so called 'lesser' nations.

Henderson is very good at moving the ball about for us, which is key in today's game and keeping possession. Many times for Sunderland you'll see him make a pass - it'll probably seem a nothing pass, maybe to a defender or something - and he'll move and receive the ball back, and then get the ball moving again. All the time moving the opposition around. He never got the opportunity to do that last night. He'd make the initial pass, find space, and the pass back wouldn't come. The defence would either try the old hoof up the channels or try to find an established player like Gerrard who can go and do his superman captain fantastic "I'll win this one meself lads" act.

Hendo would probably flourish in a 'team' like the Spanish side.

Spot on. I only watched the first quarter of an hour or so last night because I had to go out but even in those few minutes I was saying 'Good lad. Now move to space, that's it.... GIVE HIM IT BACK MAN!!!! HE WANTS IT BACK!!! GIVE... Oh FFS!!'

If long ball was successful more international teams would play that way, but they don't, it's obsolete, and if you are going to use a target man I think Crouch is far better than Carroll in that role, he proved that last night.

I made this point on another thread. Henderson would suit the continental mentality of ball possession and movement.
