I think it's the kind of thing where if he's innocent he's happy to hear the support and if he's guilty, it's an incredibly fucked up situation and chants are about the least important thing in the world. Aware that singing for him doesn't "look good" though.

I support players as players, not their personal life.

And I find it hard that anyone can "support" someone in such a case without knowing any facts whatsoever.

We have blind faith as football fans, we cannot have blind faith in this instance

I hope he is innocent[/Q

Mate you've no idea what I know, but well done for presuming!!! Even when you don't know to not support someone who hasn't been convicted of anything in any walk of life is bad craic imo, I get the football thing and some ppl r blinded by faith, but why cant people dare chant for a player who hasn't been convicted of something is bizzare, the ppl who sand have done absolutely nowt wrong

Why should we support him? We don't even know him other than as a player and this is not the same as supporting him on the pitch.

Don't take this the wrong way I hope it's all rubbish but I think unless your his friend or family it's better to stay out of it all together and let the process take it's course.

It should be personal choice. I have decided to support him for the time being.

Others have not which is fair enough.

Neither stance is wrong.

If you know something, you probably shouldn't be posting on here frankly.

People can chant if they want. But I find it strange. It's supporting someone based on nothing more than a football affiliation. It's saying "we think you are innocent because you play for our team"

As I say, hope he is innocent. I have no view whatsoever on whether he is or not. So I would neither chant his name nor accuse him of anything

@barts45 that was for

Just to give a bit of context, I think it's shocking his name was released publicly before he's been tried in court (if it even gets that far) never mind when he hasn't even been charged. It's disgraceful all of the stuff going around as if he's guilty when nobody other than the people involved know what did or did not happen. I have nothing at all against him and for selfish reason's I'd like it all to be over and him back playing for us.

The thing is I don't agree that we should support him for exactly the same reasons, it should be left to the system to run it's course and he has friends and family who actually know him who will support him.

He's a footballer. He wasn't playing.

Therefore singing songs about him is strange in such a situation

Innocent til proven guilty of course. But we don't support someone in such an accusation because they play for our team

I've posted I think he's done nowt wrong on here but thanks for the legal reminder, im well aware of that

people can chant what they what and they have tonight, and good on them! Yes I agree its obv based on football affiliation, why else would supporters chant at a match? but disagree about your innocence point. His innocence in legality cant be questioned atm as hes been charged with absolutely sod all. Fans singing his name is good imo, its just the thick uneducated shit in this country who will criticise for it (not saying u btw)

Each to their own and i'd like to think that certain scum bags will apologise when hes proved innocent in two weeks, not that they will mind. Welcome to half of our support who are undeducated morons

As long as you do the same marra.
Like I said before bookmarked.

I'm reluctant to get behind and support him until the facts become clear. Innocent till proven guilty, absolutely, but it's an extremely serious allegation and chanting in his support just doesn't sit right.

Yeah, I agree.

If the allegations were actually true, then how would the victim and their family feel knowing that thousands of people were chanting in support of the perpetrator?

The club website and the manager and players in their interviews have dealt with it the way the rest of us should - publicly staying silent - neither standing in support nor condemning (christ, I nearly typed "condoming") him until the facts become clearer.

Picking a side and being vocal about it when not knowing anything about the situation other than it's one of our best players that may or may not have committed the offence...?

How would people have reacted if it were say, a 27 year old plumber, traffic warden, politician, climbing instructor or bartender instead? Would you still want to chant the guy's name in support at this stage?

Heh, what about if it were Jozy Altidore when he still played for us?

I thought he had been charged with sexual activity with a person under 16 is this all bollocks now and not true?

Innoscent until proven guilty, until we find out otherwise, hes one of us and we look after our own. Do we just shun him until it goes to court like.

According to the press he was released on bail until 18th March at which time they will decide whether there is enough evidence to bring charges or not.
