Some news.....tomorrow

Agreed, its yet again filling the squad out with 'bit part players'. Progress would be to see O'Shea drop down to 3rd choice and a fresh partnership introduced. This is just yet another sideways step

It's a backward step. JoS and Wes are a year older and even slower and all 4 of them are poor on the ball and all have always got a mistake in them. I was disappointed when JoS got a new deal, but could see it from a continuity perspective.......but only with younger, fresher legs around him.

Vergini isn't poor on the ball mind. Very comfortable in possession

But with O'Shea, Vergini staying. Rumours about a permanent for Coates, and now this. That would be the same 4 CB's as last year, and 4 is quite enough. Its a very worrying prospect if the club aren't look to blood new faces in an area that needs serious work.
I disagree. We were far weaker in other areas last season . My money would be on pace power quality and goals in midfield and attack. If we got Coates and Vergini back I'd be ok with that and spend big elsewhere.

He is,but he often makes the wrong decision when he has it.There are only so many times you can get away with nutmegs in your own box. However, his distribution is often poor. When I look at him I sometimes think he'd be better suited further up the pitch, but,as a defender,he's not up to the standard we need.

I don't think he's anywhere near as bad as some make out.

I agree. Don't want him in our squad. If it wasn't for the early success of flicks etc, the many mistakes he has made would have been highlighted further. He has made so many gaffs and defensive errors, it's very frustrating. Would hate to go into next year with 3 out of the 4 centre backs that we had last season.

The question is....does he have the necessary qualities to play about 30 games consistently to a high enough standard against the attackers he'll face week in,week out in this league? Imo, the answer is no.

Absolutely this.

Strange decision, thought he was sure to leave.

You can never underestimate stability and experience tho. If we are planning to use him and jos and cover for each other and still bring in some new blood it won't be so bad.

Just what I was thinking, if he signs does not mean him and J0S will be 1st choice partnership. A younger (quicker) CB alongside either of those 2 would make sense whilst keeping the budget for signings elsewhere. 1 new CB this season (VVD?) and another next would give time to settle in.

Just thought it was a nice time to transition to a new model.

If dick wants him that's good enough for me

Vergini not confirmed yet by the wa

We are definitely trying to sign a first choice centre back and Coates, so don't see how this is bad y

Everyone goes on about slow old cbs but pace is not key to there game, look at Chelsea it's how well you read the game and how well you react to it (that's where you don't want a slow cb)
Man utd on the other hand have young fast cbs look how they are getting on!
That said I would only offer brown a pay as you play deal

Ffs what a waste of wages man, when we are supposed to be hamstrung ffp wise because of our wages we are offering him a new deal madness nots going to change at the sol.
