Solo traveller

It can be isolating so it would depend on you as a person as to whether you would find it liberating or dull.

Ireland is a good place to try it out, no language problems, relaxed locals and not too far to get back from if you are trying it out.

Some people cant wrap their heads around that mate,my kids are at Uni,my ex-missus moaned if there was no wifi or decent shopping malls, she hated sitting around while I was fishing, she would never have done the trip I did last year trekking in the Himalayas in Nepal, india, and Bhutan ;) spent the day helping do the brickwork on a monastery extension in the himalayas.

I am researching a trip at the moment walking across the states, wont be for a few years however.
Is that picture Bhutan? Went there, was good. Did it with a mate, though it was initially meant to be me going alone.

Yes mate,Bhutan, great place, totally different to Nepal nowadays,i also tried to come back alone once from Hong Kong overland to the UK,travelled across china, down the KKH and through Pakistan to the iran border, refused a visa, the road less travelled.

i could Dave!;)
Well I can’t. It’s my two phobias - talking to strangers and not being in control of situations - combined in the same package.
Just the thought of it fills me with terror.
Have considered it but I think I’d just end up wondering what I’d done wrong in life that I find myself alone with nobody to share my time with. Travel is better when you can experience it with someone. Obviously everyone won’t feel the same so if you fancy it give it a try.
This all day. What’s the point of seeing these wonderful sights and then not discussing them?

have loads of holidays and wife has none and we are comfortable enough for me to go off solo.

I do it a work loads.

May be one day - St Petersburg for 60quid return from Stanstead return on Skyscanner atm if anyone is looking for solo mission.

cracking that mate - it's all personality driven like - those that can manage this and connect with strangers are always the most rounded, but have that lone wolf streak.

I quite like the travel on my own bit but not arriving somewhere and being on my lonesome.

If I didn't have a partner I would 100% do it, obviously people who are with someone are not going to say 'Yeah I'm going on holiday for a few weeks.......ALONE......see ya, make sure you take the dog out'.

I do, several times a year.

Our lass enjoys beach holidays and I enjoy exploring. I'm quite happy to travel by myself and she's alright with me swanning off to places she isn't interested in.

That looks topper that mate. I agree with your point entirely, I can comfortably travel with people if I should choose to. I like my own company.

People who travel solo don’t necessarily have no one to share it with. They just choose not to.
I never suggested that was the case I explained that’s what I’d end up thinking

Me too. Especially flights or train. Bottle of wine, music and a nice view is great. Always book a window seat.

That’s the way I feel. I go to visit stuff. Tbh if I was a sun worshipping person I could just lye about talking on Facebook etc so it wouldn’t matter. Obviously if you were somewhere like Rome, Paris etc I’d need a companion

I thought you did that with your son?

I've always done it if I've been single at the time. Done Belfast twice and London three times. Use to have a cracking time. Good walk about sight seeing during the day them find a boozer on the night with some sport on them have a few pints and read a paper or book and watch some sport if they was out on I fancied

Think the plan is you have to meet people so in effect you aren't alone but I know what you mean .My mate tells me his stories from walking Europe only when asked and they're mint.He doesn't blab on social media just cracks on .Good thing is I join him when I normal hols from work

No problem with it at all mate and it’s me that’s missing out but I just wouldn’t enjoy it I know what I’m like. I don’t even really go out for a pint on my own despite living in the city centre.

Odd because I hate going on holiday with anyone other than my lass as well. Wouldn’t even go with my sister or parents they’d annoy me.

Not me either ,
the flip side of company is getting on each others nerves .Went walking/camping for a week with a lad and by the end us were arguing about whether combing your hair made it greasy !

😂 it’s shit like. I went away with my parents for 3 days and was sick by day 2.

I've done seasonal fruit picking in Hungary, many years ago.
I met loads of people, from different countries, who I kept in touch with for years.
I would recommend seasonal work abroad, to any younger person.
It's a great experience, and a good way, to meet people, and see a different country, and learn a new language.
Merci beaucoup
