I think this all stems back to the amount of time OGS spent on the bench during his super sub days and the detailed conversations he and SAF had about games/ tactics / philosophy. Fergie has said on record of all the players he managed he thought Solskjaer would be the one to have the biggest impact as a manager.
I think that’s how. I suppose you could argue, given his record and that he’s written books and delivered academic work on the matter, that Alex Ferguson is reasonably placed to have an understanding on such matters. No guarantees of course. He could be shit.
Solskjaer is young enough, smart, clever, done well as manager in Molde, legend in ManU, have deep respect in the club, prefer offensive football. He is what they need...they will pick up a lot of 3 pointers from now on.Mental appointment and basically a loan until the Norwegian season starts next summer

Time will tell but I think he will do a lot better than people on here are predicting.
Maybe wishful thinking on my part but I think it’s a great decision. They need to take time out to get the next appointments right since it’s obvious they will be changing the structure completely to a DOF model. Pointless rushing in to a managerial appointment if he’s not going to be the person the new DOF wants. Not many top class managers would want to take that rabble on a 6 month contract and I’d much prefer to see Ole given a chance than one of the serial failures on the managerial merry go round.
Each to their own, thought the football at Cardiff was dreadful. Also since he's gone back to Molde he hasn't won the league title. They're a big club in Norway so not overly impressed with his job there. As for Fergie, he was a great manager obviously, but that doesn't mean he's a good advisor on who to actually be a manager. It's a bit like how very good players often don't make very good managers, just one of those things. He’s very highly regarded as a potential manager by SAF (yeah I know Moyes was his pick too) but I think 1) OGS will get a lot of hands on support from fergie / phelan 2) players will almost certainly buy in 3) fans will back him.
He’s clearly no mug, Cardiff can be excused, bad decision taking that
job when he did. And he really hasn’t got anything to lose so the football will be attacking, as it needs to be at OT
Not sure why the smileys, he was good enough to be Fergie’s assistant winning titles so why not Ole’s?Mike Phelan![]()
You’ve pretty much covered what is known about him here alreadyAnybody know much about this Paul Mitchell who seems to be the current name in the frame for the DOF role? Not a role I’ve paid much attention to previously. Currently head of recruitment at Leipzig but previously worked at Southampton and Spurs. Played for Wigan and MK Dons apparently but can’t say I remember him.
Aren’t you not in existence for the sole purpose of ruining Man Utd with the fan started fc of Manchester? Though that’s not going well in your leagueNot sure why the smileys, he was good enough to be Fergie’s assistant winning titles so why not Ole’s?

Will Man Utd fans accept a losing run of say four games?I agree. Just appeasing the fans mostly aren't they? A likeable former player from the most successful time in the club's history, one that knows how the club should play football.
There's really very little to lose. If he does well then great, if not then it's not much of a big deal seeing as expectations aren't high. I can't imagine there's much hope among the United fans that they're gonna finish top four so it makes sense to bring him in now and lift the mood a little bit whilst they look for someone to take over in the Summer.

Not necessarily. They lose four in a row, I don’t think old Trafford will be rocking cause an ex player is managerIf they lose the next four games in a row or win their next four games in a row they still aren't going to finish any higher than sixth. Their league season is already finished.
That’s when pogba left to juve in the first placeRijkaard had a relegation before Barcelona, Enrique was a disaster at Roma, Klopp went down with Mainz, Poch sacked at Espanyol.....
Sometimes you need to suffer to succeed. And as been mentioned, he's got a free hit. They finish 6/7th and he's done no worse that Jose. But he will probably play a more entertaining style of football so the fans will get behind the team more. Also, he had Pogba when he was in charge of the reserve team at United so might have some way of getting more out of him?

All this happened when busby left back in the day. I’m not saying they will go down but the glory Man Utd fans crave and assume is not going to be so forthcoming now
