Solider F

I was actually in the only class to study medieval history at A Level.

I can wax lyrical about the Battle of Hastings, Otto the Schismatic, The Varangians etc

I then went on to read Classics but specialised in Byzantine shit so covered up to that period from pre civilisation again over the other side.

I know my medieval shit:lol:

You still can not grasp the basic thing that a man staking a claim on a throne is not a country. You are really struggling with this.

No it isn't alright to hang out a serving officer out to dry when his superiors and those instructing his superiors face nothing.
Where did you study all that stuff?

Are you a British citizen - like your parents almost certainly were at birth?

Amnesty for all or none, whatever level.

And you cannot grasp thatit is when it is done militarily... a large army landing on and militarily conquering a foreign country by force is an invasion. That is exactly what William the Conqueror/ bastard did

anyone can stake a claim on a throne

when they take it further by invading its an invasion

My father was born in Tipperary in Newcastle
My mother was born in Dublin
They were born Irish in the 20s, only just in my father's case.

I went to school here as my mother wanted us to go to Oxbridge or the Royal Academy.

I read Classics at Kings College, not Oxbridge I hasten to add, my eldest brother told me he'd break my legs if I applied. My sisters had not had a happy time of it there.
So I decided not to apply to Oxbridge and it worked out well as my father became ill and I was needed at home so worked 3 jobs and did my degree and was the only undergraduate invited to work on the porphyrogennetos project which was an incredible experience.

Many of the IRA learnt the Irish language whilst in the Maze when they were in prison for terrorism offences. They had a fair bit of time on their hands.

This thread is ridiculous. Basically it's OK to persecute a 76 year old bloke because the British were involved in the potato famine 170 years ago.

It should be an amnesty for all or none.
I don't think he's being persecuted. If he's guilty of what he's accused of then he should be publicly condemned although that's as far as it should go.

nice

Credit to you for disregarding your familys' prejudices but how did you end up the way you are?

William the Conqueror is not France and nor was he invading as Normandy

He was invading... meh not really invading as he said he was the rightful king of England. So he was claiming his throne, he conquered over Harold who had already conquered over Harald at the Chelsea ground.

It was a hot mess

Regardless of what you, Cat, or anyone else think should be that simply isn't what was agreed over 20 years ago.

They have totally trampled over the agreement now anyway

No shame in totally flouting it from what I can see

Having the DUP in bed with the PM is totally against it
All the backstop stuff... totally against it

They may as well carry on flouting it

FFS! Harald conqured nowt (I'm giving you some credit about the Chelsea ground). Having sat near Hastings he was foreced to run his English army up North where he defeated a potential invasion from another foreign invader (Danish).
William the Conqueror/ Bastard did have a valid claim to the crown but the English rejected it. He then invaded with an army consisting of Normans, French and Bretons( iirc) to conquer England by militarily defeating the English army and imposing his will upon them whilst massacring the North.

I take it your "course" didn't cover English history

I could not give a shit what was agreed 20 odd years ago. We can decide whatever we want and that should not be potentially jailing soldiers. If that pisses off the provos so be it. If they want to kick off then we can start putting their ilk back behind bars, their choice.

I think you're confusing your Harold / Harald here.

Can't you read?
I said William conquered over Harold the current King who had conquered over Harald.

Where did I say Harald conquered anything?

Explains the photos
Thank you x

You might not give a shit but, equally, and probably fortunately, you have no influence over what 'we decide'.

Wrong forum for Brexit talk but I'll bite.

The backstop isn't against it, it kicks the can down the road in the hope someone else can sort it out down the line. No deal, or at least the effects of no deal, would be incompatible with the Belfast Agreement.
