Decided I am going to borrow some from work to see if they are any good.

Just do it. Fast as ferk.

Comparing a small SSD with a hyowge normal drive is like comparing a Ferrari with a double decker bus...

This. I stuck a 256GB Marvell controllered one (Crucial C300) in me laptop last year and it's like someone tripled the clock speed. Everything's instant. Best thing I ever bought.

So why buy a Lamborghini Gallardo when you could buy a Fiat Multipla which has much more space in it???

Because you might need space but desire speed. 120GB is absolutely fuck all frankly. My Steam folder isn't far off that size on it's own.

Ideal candidate for a hybrid drive then.

Or, if it's a reasonably common laptop model with an optical drive, you might be able to replace the optical drive cartridge with one that fits a hard drive instead (it's just SATA internally). Then you can have a small SSD anarl for your boot drive.I got one off ebay for my Dell, for not much $$ from the usual hong kong cheap junk merchants.

Got a 64Gb SSD last year.

Have Windows and the programs on it as drive C:. All my data is on the hard disk (D:).

There are a few additional tweaks you need to make to Windows 7 to get the best out of the SSD. Google is your friend.

It is blindingly fast. Best value for money upgrade you can make.

Which one do you recommend HBT ?

Any one with either a Sandforce 2 or Marvell controller, if you want "the best". I've been very happy with my Crucial. But really they're all so good these days (no real duds any more) you can go on best price/capacity available to you. Even older ones with Indilinx/Sandorce 1/Intel controllers are still light years ahead of HDDs.

OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Intel are the most common ones, here anyway.

I'm looking at a hybrid drive now. Seagate Momentus XT 500GB, £95 on ebuyer. If the reviews are to be believed it sounds excellent.
