Solar panels

They obviously didn't do a good enough job did they.
I'm aware that some kind of grants previously existed but don't know what they were?
I think they might have been by council area rather than nationally available but let's be honest, whatever was previously available wasn't very well publicised.

We may not have been in a position to take advantage of anything previously anyway but are enquiring now due to an inheritance, so why aren't there any incentives now?

Facing a cost of living crisis, energy prices rocketing, warm-banks being set-up, talk in the press of potential blackouts etc.
Surely the government should be encouraging as much sustainable/"green energy" investment as possible?

Oh yeah. Fossil fuel companies just happen to also donate to the Tory party 🤔

I agree they should. Energy companies saying generation is expensive but solar wind and hydro not, we should be doing more with resources our island has imo

It’s amazing how people criticise without even bothering to see what’s out there.

No VAT on renewables at the minute…how big do you need the incentive to be?

Energy prices are flying up and the best they can do is effectively a 5% discount on renewables. I’d say a much bigger incentive is needed. Something that makes them affordable for most would be a good start

I'm getting a system fitted today, has anyone local had them fitted and have you felt the benefits over time.
Obviously December isn't the best time of year and I'm not expecting to generate anything until Feb.
Money saved will be needed to repair your damaged roof under their weight!

A competent installer does not fit a system that is to heavy for your roof.

Knocked my estimated annual electricity consumption back by about 30% so far plus not using gas for hot water in summer months, still generating at a reduced rate in this sunny weather.

Has anyone used EON as the supplier and installer? They offer interest free financing to install. With a battery it is a very tempting financial offer. £270 a month over 36 months. With the current price of electricity, it can really shorten the payback.

How long are folk waiting for installs at the moment?

I'm waiting for some company to call me back. If OPs experience with GEC is positive I'll give them a try too.

I've had two quotes. First said around 7 weeks, second 7-8.

If I go with GEC apparently there's a referral payment scheme 😉

They are ready to go with mine once they get all the optimisers.. it's the issue they are having at present.. all the other gear sitting in the stores

Yeah at least two units. Possibly three

We use most of our leccy on an evening so makes sense to me.
I'm looking to run some underfloor heating on mine too. Either wet from solar heated water or electric. It's a fairly large area. No idea what battery capacity I need mind.

I'm hoping these people can work all that out for me.

Slightly off topic, but wet underfloor heating is incomparably better than electric underfloor heating. For the avoidance of doubt, wet underfloor heating is class and electric underfloor heating is rubbish.

Fraction of the cost to run too..

I have water underfloor in 70% of my downstairs.. it's lovely... The rest is electric which I rarely use and isn't anywhere near as good. Very pricey to run
