Solar panels

I'm getting a system fitted today, has anyone local had them fitted and have you felt the benefits over time.
Obviously December isn't the best time of year and I'm not expecting to generate anything until Feb.

Definitely notice the difference, as you say obviously somewhat less at this time of year. Had to get into the habit of setting delayed starts on washer/dishwasher/drier etc on morning before going to work to get the most benefit during the day. Also schedule car charging during the day when I'm not using it.

Even on a sunny day in winter we still notice the smart meter running at 0 so we definitely notice the difference. And ours are old so don’t generate as much as yours will.

In summer it’s much better and we get around £1600 a year in Fit payments.

Said it on other threads but there’s no better feeling than putting on the washing machine when the sun is shining and the smart meter shows you aren’t using any electricity 😀

The time to ask about the benefits is definitely the day they’re being installed.
I'd already made my mind up and with my workings out it will be a benefit but thought others who have first hand experience may have knowledge.
It's def getting installed either way as I've committed to it now.

Who's fitting your system?
I filled in an online form for a quote from a NE company & they didn't get back to me

On a reasonably bright spring/summers day I use next to no electricity and put my washer, dishwasher etc on during this time. I used around 10KwH of electricity between August and October.

If you are not an Octopus customer switch your supply to them and export excess solar to them at 15pkWh.
In summer if you have immersion heater use that for hot water instead of gas.
Are you also getting battery storage?

I've just checked my meter and it's virtually static atm. I currently have my washing machine on a 40 degree wash and all the other constant appliances running including fridge freezer and a chest freezer in the garage. That's not bad for an overcast day in December.

Getting battery along with the panels, and hoping to switch to octopus after new year. I'm not too bothered about the selling it back but hoping to cover my usage at least.

In summer you’ll make plenty to cover your use n export a fair bit depending on your system size.

That’s a magic washing machine that runs without power, where did you get it from? 😉

you'll still pick up UV rays even on overcast days...it won't skyrocket the meter of course, but it'll register something

In the summer it'll be humming....

Had mine priced up. I can only get a 2.8Kw system due to the direction of roof. That’s nearly £10 grand with battery. Not sure how much difference it would make.

Sounds a bit steep, mine is 4.2kw with battery for £8,800.
The difference between quotes was crazy like, one was over £16k for the same set up.

That sounds very similar to a quote we've just had. Nothing to do with direction of the roof, I'm not convinced by the sales pitch tbh.
Waiting for an appointment with GEC who fitted @safc...hic! system as a comparison.

Government should have subsidised these on all homes that wanted then in addition to Insulation. Too late now as country's skint. Energy companies who want good pr for being green could supply them free in exchange for half or energy supplied or take part of roof space for some panels. Company get generation, hone owner get cheap / free energy

They did. 🤷‍♂️
