I occasionally never cleaned my boots and if you had played on a particular muddy pitch the previous week then left them in your bag to dry out the leather and laces were stiff and difficult to get on the next time you played.Some lads had different boots for Saturday's and Sundays which was a good idea as playing in the same soggy boots on a freezing Sunday morning your feet where numb when you started the game.
