Please explain a 5 to the SMB?
Hi drew your comment of a 5 mark was a polite response. Posters on here as usual are getting hammered if it doesn’t fit other posters opinions which is why I try not to bother as much posting on here. I think the new owners are doing an excellent job but that’s just my opinion. We were in a mess mate but we have most definitely turned the corner. Well done to them from me and 9/10.

Spot on love your comments I feel they have address the elephants in the room. Still some high earners left but a least they give everything they have to the club. I hope they continue to take the ship in the right direction 9.5/10

Sorry drew put my post in the wrong place to reply mate. Trying to do two things at once.

Look mate, I gave my reasoning. What they have done in the transfer market is just ok. They said you don't need to spend more, but now after having a good look at what we've signed and the depth of our squad I'm not convinced (not that I ever was mind but there you go). Our recent results and the fact we're not in an automatic spot yet reflect that. Could we have done better in the transfer market with a stronger financial hand? Yes I think we probably could have.

If I was harsh on anyone I'd probably say it was 7/10 for Jack Ross. OK we're not quite where we want to be in the league yet but he's doing what he can with what he's got. I think he's made a few errors but who doesn't. Whether that 7/10 in October can be improved on come May time will tell - I hope it does. That 7/10 might look generous though if we're not promoted and that's the reality of football - and how much of that will be down to our transfer dealings?

74% I said overall, and I think at this early stage that's more than a glass half full for where we find ourselves in this moment. At the end of the day it's going to come down to where we find ourselves in October 2019 and beyond that really matters. Eights, nines and tens out of ten are more than a little premature if you ask me.

Your opinion is totally fair, not sure why @TopCat is so against it

Our transfer business has been mixed like, that is fair and I'd like to hear any sensible suggestion to why it has been better than that

Our best players are the ones from last season

I’d have to give them a 10/10, unbelievable what they’ve managed to do in such a short space of time. Jack Ross I’d give a 7/10, solid start.

Total the opposite way round mate, Ross didn't get give the best players in the summer, he has done better than them IMO

Solid 8.5. Bar a few concerns over the squad in relation to where I’d like us to be (though that could all work itself out when we have everyone back in which case I’d amend it) and possible issues with the whole twitter thing, I’m pleased.

Might even be a bit harsh because given the size of the task, the fact we’re anywhere is amazing.

Whey Cattermole certainly is, and if they'd had it their way he wouldn't even be here, and you have to wonder what the alternative might have been - another Dylan McGeouch?

Probably starting bloody O'Nien

It was a tough job int he summer, but most of the signings have been bit underwhelming IMO

Wyke, O'Nien, James, Ozturk, McGeoch, Loovens etc

T

The twitter stuff has calmed right down now. Good move.
As I said earlier that was my only concern on the progress that has been made. It is all well and good when things are going well but any downturn in progress and that’s when it bites you on the arse. The vast majority of supporters at every club are fickle and we are no different. As for the calibre of players we have signed a lot of that is down to restrictions and the league we are in and in the long run will be fit for purpose .

What alternatives can you give me giving our restraints , bearing in mind players might not want to come or buy into the vision ?

A lot of these restraints are self imposed ones by the owners like

I'm not making any suggestions, I am just saying the majority of the signings have been underwhelming, don't think that is a big statement, its just obvious

Why spend huge amounts when promotion could be gained on a smaller budget? Common business sense.

You say underwhelming but I am asking who you would have gone for to appease you ? I respect your opinion but you have to take into account how far we have fallen and hopefully we have the players who are comfortable to perform and are street savvy in this league. They might not hack it in the championship when we hopefully go up but that is another issue. Btw for the record I think we will go up automatically

Continue as we have and it could easily be missed on as well. A lack of investment can lead to opportunities missed and failure. Common business sense.

Who knows, that's the job of the powers that be. The only player we have signed that I'd ever heard of was Jerome Sinclair. I wasn't concerned about players I'd heard of though, as you say we've fallen a long way and it's a new ball game down in League 1. I do however think it stands to reason that a bigger and better budget in the right hands could have maybe equated to a better transfer window in terms of recruitment. I realise that's not always the case and things aren't that simple. For all we know Jack Ross could have gone out and squandered a few million on absolute shite - but even then you'd have to hold the owner's accountable for appointing the wrong man. Credit to Jack Ross though he's very willing to work with what he's given, and so far he doesn't seem to be bad it, but I can't help but think could he have been given a bit more. And I still have my concerns over what the hell we do next summer.

Money doesn't always buy success, but it can bloody well help.

Money can also be the ruination of a club as well as we already know. How many years have we paid extortionate amounts of money for players who never wanted to be here? I have said it many times on here loyalty in the game has long gone, we pay hard earned money to support them and 90% of players don’t give a shit about us. They kiss the badge pledging undying love and then as soon as they enter the last year of their contracts agents are touting them out for more mullah. Rant over!

What makes a cheap player any better?

Money hasn't ruined Sunderland AFC - bad management from the top down has. Our best, most caring, most loyal player is the one we pay the most money to. Spending money remains a reality in football whether you like it or not.

Conversely, what makes a dearer player better, when every aspect is taken into consideration? Would you class Rodwell as loyal, Bent, Flo, Gyan etc etc ?

You are definitely a mag....I advise everyone to look at your past posts about SAFC....what was wrong with the 1st half v Peterborough young un??? Probably our best performance of the season when we should have been 3 or 4 up !! YET you were not happy....were the cheap players disgusting you with their lack of passion, skill, loyalty????

I wasn't suggesting they are, the point was that no matter what level the footballer, stick a better offer on the table and they'll likely be away. Nobody plays for nowt at the end of the day.

Why can't you just have a sensible debate

The lad has posted nothing remotely controversial, its all fair. You don't have to agree with him but this is bang out of order

Really poor post.

How the hell do I know? not my point, I don't think I am bring controversial saying a fair few of the signings have missed the mark.

Solid 7/10. Good work reconnecting with the fans. Will see in the immediate future what their level of ambition is.
