I used to work for a now defunct U.S. I.T. Outfit - office attire was suits, ties and white shirts, no exceptions. We got a memo to say it was now ok to take your jacket off during meetings. They were an odd lot.In early 90s I worked for a company that were UK dealers for a US software company. Our pompous old-school MD went over for a visit to negotiate commission rates (he got totally rinsed) and when he came back he said proudly in a meeting that they were clearly a good professional outfit because everyone was "suited & booted". I didn't tell him about the calendar on the wall in the office in Michigan that highlighted "tie days" - everyone would keep suit & tie in a locker to put on when it was a tie day then take off again when the visitors buggered off and revert to standard Bermuda shorts & t shirt.
