Small Garden Office?

Did anyone look into these during lockdown?

With our kids getting older, and needing more space / own rooms etc, I'm seriously considering moving my office into the garden. I've probably got about £10k to spend (hopefully less!), but I've no real idea about options other than a "shed" type thing.

I'd want something with excellent insulation as I'd be working in it all year round.
Is wood the best option? Or are there better cost-effective materials out there that would last longer, be cheaper etc?

I'd probably fit a air con system too that would keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. I think you can get those for about £800 fitted, or at least that was the cheapest prices last time I looked.
Practically everyone in our street has them except us. Neighbour had to pull his apart and rebuild it due to damp. The other half suggested I get one as I work from home (have done since before Covid) and I'm absolutely not interested. Just another bloody thing to take care of and worry about.

It never stops mate.

Just been talking to my FiL (retired builder) to sanity check my plans to knock down the downstairs bog and resize it into a proper ensuite, as we'll be moving out bedroom into what I currently use as my office (converted the garage a couple of years ago).
Need to change doorways, move the consumer unit, knock walls down etc etc.
I hate it all tbh, but nobody else is going to do it...

Not anymore.
That’s a shame. Could have been a good one for the pension: buy a small office with your pension fund and then get the company to rent it off you.

There is a Facebook group for these things. Some are really nice but you can see they have spent a bomb. Some though, are utter f***ing shite and a total waste of £££

Not the biggest or the best, then they shows this fuck off complex in the bottom of their garden 😂

Some brilliant ones mind, must have cost an absolute fortune . Depends what you are into and if it's just a nice bit of work and play space for you and the family or you are gonna be hosting people

That’s the one 😂

My all time fav was some tit from Derby that built a swimming pool complex at the bottom of his garden. Not only did it look shite, but it was a death trap.

Of course, he didn’t seek planning permission and was fuming when his neighbours complained 😂

My only advice would be is be careful what expenses you claim on your accounts as use of home as an office.

You don't want the expenses to be 100% company owned as it may mess with your PPR relief on your family home.

I'm employed, not contracting these days. This is all out of my own pocket.
