Sir Alex Ferguson

Aye, course he did 😂

Is he fuck like. Took the huff like a bairn when we took the piss. Yet we had to tug our forelock and take it when they took the piss when we relegated. Twice. Fuck him. We owe him nowt.

Yes he is, proper bloke who came from nothing and grafted his bollocks off

I couldnt care less about the little rivalries you've concocted in your head

2,155 matches managed, with a 58.1% win percentage. You may say that it should be high given it’s Man Utd, but we forget they hadn’t won the league since 66/67 when he took over

He then won 13 league titles (of Man Utd’s total of 20), 5 FA cups, 4 league cups, 2 champions leagues and 1 cup winners cup.

On top of that he won 3 games when he managed Scotland

Superb manager. Twat of a bloke.

Hilarious the way he took the huff when we took the piss when City won the league.
He was irritated that the club he managed and loved came close but fell at the ladt possible hurdle. Most people are in those circumstances.

I also understand why someone as used to an elite level of sucsess at sport would be pissed off at a bunch of fans gloating even though their own team lost and had nothing to do with the situation or to be gloating about . That's the sort of thing English fans get furious at Scottish fans doing all the time.
Most people who have encountered him speak well of him. Having read his book he does seem intense and doesn't take any criticism on the chin really, but also seems to protect his own - players or fellow managers with gusto.

There's countless stories of players who didn't make it at Old Trafford as kids who he went out on a limb for and protected/looked after too.
Seems like the sort of person who was very much on your side if you met his standards or needs and otherwise pretty indifferent to everyone who didn't fit that. Most sucsessful managers in sport are though.

Greatest manager of all time!

Did well at Aberdeen also.
Not to be forgotten, he put together a great side trophy winning side there, loved him as a manager, he knew exactly how to get up other managers noses and basically dictate what side they put out.
Utterly outstanding figure of the game . Genius of the game.
breaking the Glasgow stranglehold and a winning a European trophy with Aberdeen eclipsed even what he did at Man Utd. Genius of a football manager with an unbelievable work ethic. The pre planning work and dossiers compiled on every aspect of a players character before signing them are light years away from the way money is casually thrown at players United have signed since.
In a nutshell, above says it all

No rivalry here. Not sure MUFC will be that bothered about the papa John’s like. 😂 Sunderland first. Always. Show me the video of a sunderland manager/player saying “they won’t forget” before you accuse me of pettiness

He is a fantastic manager, firstly with Aberdeen then sheer volume of titles with man United won’t be repeated.

Kind of miss seeing the rivalry with wenger / arsenal

Only winning 2 champs league probably a slight negative for him

The 1st 12 years of his managerial career between 1974-1986 were with East Stirlingshire, St Mirren, Aberdeen and Scotland

Was at skyul with my best man, a true gent.
Greater achievement than owt he did south of the border. Even then Ally McLoid assembled most of that team. Mind getting Aberdonians to do owt but count their money probably surpasses everything he did in his life ten times ower.
Any scots persons agree?
Im a scot and think he is the greatest manager ever in this game.

Depends how you look at it really. He signed a lot of flops over the years but a lot of them were young players he took a chance with and you only need a few to come good. If you look at his ‘big signings’ I don’t think he got too many wrong with the possible exception of Veron.

He got criticised a lot for leaving ‘a shit over the hill’ team (despite winning the league with them) but he always said he wanted to leave the money for the next man to shape his own team, although he did indulge himself with Van Persie to get that last title over the line.

If you compare his record to the money United have squandered since I think his record was pretty good. Often it was the ‘unsung’ players he signed like Park and Valencia that brought the work ethic to his teams.
How do you think he'd have done in this current era with these Liverpool and City under klopp and pep, if he was 10 years younger for example?

Would've been fascinating to find out.
