Sir Alex Ferguson

80 today

2,155 matches managed, with a 58.1% win percentage. You may say that it should be high given it’s Man Utd, but we forget they hadn’t won the league since 66/67 when he took over

He then won 13 league titles (of Man Utd’s total of 20), 5 FA cups, 4 league cups, 2 champions leagues and 1 cup winners cup.

On top of that he won 3 games when he managed Scotland

Some going
3 Scottish Premier League titles for Aberdeen, 4 Scottish Cups, European Cup winners cup and a Super Cup maybe even greater achievement giving the dominance of the Glasgow clubs.

Did well at Aberdeen also.
You could argue that breaking the Glasgow stranglehold and a winning a European trophy with Aberdeen eclipsed even what he did at Man Utd. Genius of a football manager with an unbelievable work ethic. The pre planning work and dossiers compiled on every aspect of a players character before signing them are light years away from the way money is casually thrown at players United have signed since.

Agree about Aberdeen but he wasted a whole lot of money at Man United towards the end, what went wrong there?

Best manager of all time, well apart from Phil Parkinson obviously

Superb manager. Twat of a bloke.

Hilarious the way he took the huff when we took the piss when City won the league.
I think he’s generally a decent bloke. Made a bit of a dick of himself when we did the Poznań but, whilst amusing for us, that must have been bloody annoying for them at such a gut wrenching moment.

Depends how you look at it really. He signed a lot of flops over the years but a lot of them were young players he took a chance with and you only need a few to come good. If you look at his ‘big signings’ I don’t think he got too many wrong with the possible exception of Veron.

He got criticised a lot for leaving ‘a shit over the hill’ team (despite winning the league with them) but he always said he wanted to leave the money for the next man to shape his own team, although he did indulge himself with Van Persie to get that last title over the line.

If you compare his record to the money United have squandered since I think his record was pretty good. Often it was the ‘unsung’ players he signed like Park and Valencia that brought the work ethic to his teams.

The transfer of Bebe was dodgy as f***! £9m on a player that had played one season in the Portuguese 3rd division.
