Simple question, what would your rating for Henderson be tonight?

6. did nothing wrong and used the ball reasonably well when he had it, but wasn't involved enough to get a higher rating.

Between a 5 and a 6. In the first half he did hide a bit but then the gap between him and anyone else infront of him was about 1/2 a pitch length. Gerrard never dropped deep enough to look for a ball from him and most of the french pressure came down the left.

In the second half he looked more comfortable but the only way he'd get a pass from Gerrard was if he was standing 40 yards away who almost every time looked for a glory ball from deep rather than a short ball through the middle.

His best preiod was when Gerrard went off and it looked like he was given a bit more license to play his usual game. His passing seemed to be quicker and more incisive and he looked to make openings for people.

All in all he was steady and shouldn't be to disappointed given some of the shambles around him.

5.5 he didn't get involved enough. Didn't seem to want to (or wasn't allowed to) do his box-to-box thing - seemed to walk around holding his position a lot.

Suppose these things happen when you've got to play to 2 established internations way of playing.

By the way, did anyone else notice the crap passes he got from Carroll? Not saying it was deliberate, just shit.

Gerrard was supposedly doing that, I think Henderson was told to sit in a more defensive role.

Agreed but what's the point in picking a young lad who’s' still learning his trade then telling him to play in a totally different way to the way he's used to? Especially when the way you're telling him to play is a way he's only played once before (in a U21 game) and is the opposite to the way he was playing to get his call-up

IIRC they weren't crap, they were just "over enthusiastic".

I hate the fucker but to be fair to Caroll he was fed on shite long balls all night himself

5, Taking into account it was his debut and he was not helped by an appauling selfish Gareth Barry, I d give him a 5. His positioning was terrible and he never got close enough to players, they just passed him by. Not a good debut at all poor lad

5, effort was there from jordan, but he does'nt play the holding role for us and half the balls were going over his head...fabio needs to play him in his natural position next time, henderson is 20 and needs to develop....

Would like to see henderson play against a lesser opposition to prove his worth...

4 Disappointing
Not helped by more experienced team mates but centre midfield is a key position and on the night he didn't fit the bill. Looked leggy and without his usual zip, not marking tight enough and finding himself on the wrong side.
On the plus side the experience will benefit him and have added to his development.

Id give him a 5/6, wasnt invloved too much in the first half got on the ball alot more in the 2nd half.

his passing was good didnt give the ball away too much. But sitting in a defensive midfield role next to Gareth Barry wouldnt have helped him not a position he normally plays in. but overall it wasnt a bad debut for the kid hope there's more to come.

i hate to say it but carroll did ok as well with what he was supplied, i cant understand why so called international defenders punt the ball up field as soon as the sit a tall striker on his own (who didnt have much support), he couldnt do much with the balls lescott was puntin up feidl. then we put two wingers on and start getting crosses i the box but by then carroll was off the pitch

Yep

Same score and comments from me

5/6, Did his job but was often left wondering what his job was when others weren't doing theres.

And often looked wondering why as an attacking midfielder he was put in to do a holding midfieders role.

this exactly^^^^

TalkShite were bigging up Gerard saying he was the best player looked more to me like the self-centred shit we all know. Ploughing forward thinking he's a striker and then wanting everything to go through him like Gary fookin Breen!

The amount of times Henderson was the option and the difficult ball to Gerard or the useless Barry was always taken.

I'd give him 6 but maybe that's a tad generous. Didn't do much wrong, and if Milner had scored from the brilliant ball that Henderson fed him, then people would have raving about him.

With the wide men, Milner and Walcott obviously looking to push forward, and Gerrard playing high up the pitch it left Barry and Henderson having to stay deep, which doesn't show Henderson at his best.

Still, good experience, and at 20 year old, he was better than at least half the other players in the England starting line up.

5

Backed off them into space instead of taking an advancing step to harry and get touch tight. Invariably three yards off the Frogs throughout.

I think I agree with all of this. Thanks for saving me type it out.

I wonder what the media would be saying if Milner had scored that piss-easy chance that Hendo put on a plate for him?
