Signing Defoe has relegated us....

The point is they bought a player they cant find an effective role for....two different managers! ...
We could still have sold Dozy.

Yep, terrible planning to bring in a proven Premier League goal scorer, I completely agree....

He was never actually all that prolific in far, far better teams than us and with considerably less miles on the clock. He's been playing in a shit joke league for a season. To have to rely on him to singlehandedly save our season tells us more about how f***ing shit we are than how good he is.

He plays a position that is defunct in the modern game. How many sides play with someone who's only role is finishing? 20 years ago he'd have been great. Football has changed. That's probably how we got him.

Thought there was interest from all over Europe....jozy certainly said he had a lot of options
None who would have stumped up any cash, just loans iirc. Toronto wouldn't even pay money, the league bought him.

And Toronto had no designated player spots for him, so had to sell Defoe before he could join.

Why are the dumbest posters keen to start threads? You'd think they would be more reticent...

FFS - we swapped Altidore for Defoe! What about that is bad?

Tbf, he had a chance to put us 2 up and fuckin blew it. Had a great chance to score against west Ham and fucked it up. Not beyond criticism at all, in fact, considering his pedigree, that's f***ing woeful

I knew the OP would get stick, but he has a point

I think Poyet might of kept us up with his boring 451 0-0 and draw stuff

Defoe has done OK at times but we have tried so many different formations since he signed

By the way he was shite today, he should of won us that game

We couldn't have though could we? Who else wanted him?

I'm not saying Defoe for Altidore wasn't a good move, it clearly was

But there is without doubt some merit in what the OP is saying, it totally disrupted our shape and solidity. It may have been awful to watch but I think we would of stayed up under Poyet with his boring tactics and 451 formation, at least everyone knew what they were doing.

Defoe works hard and has quality, but personally I don't think it has worked out like we thought it would.

Our squad isn't good enough, and we look a bit open when trying to incorporate him at times.

Sounds ridiculous after the Mags match I know, I am not even criticising Defoe or the club for bringing him in, they had to really, but I think strangely it hasn't helped results at all, if that makes sense.

I absolutely agree

This must be a first for us?
Not quite, you just don't see it ;)

We abandoned all comfortably formations when he joined. The set up wasn't working before but it got worse, we even lost the ability to defend simple things. This season has been truly shite.
