Donald failed yet again in the Jan Transfer Window. We were crying out for some creativity and a proven goalscorer. We got neither.
A proven goalscorer can also create their own chances out of nothing and if we had that we would be more likely to make the top two.
If we fail to go up this year the ultimate blame has to lie with Donald and his “I can do it on the cheap “ mentality.

and i've also predicted that response in my post further back on the thread. i've been saying the same for years, so it isn't hindsight. carry on as we are and we'll never progress

Hindsight and stating the obvious doesn't sound like a proppa bizzo plan sweetcheeks....
I'm out....

I'm not sure you can call it "do it on the cheap" when we have a playing budget that would engulf probably the bottom half of the table combined.

The choice not to proceed on Coyle, Boyce and Docherty has significantly harmed our trajectory. Yes all three would have cost a lot in league one terms but in the grand scheme of things they were 3 players we could have made a profit on.

To settle for players that will do nothing but drain our finances is another of the long list of problems this ownership has.

I completely agree however it is his management that has created a budget that doesn't create proper value.

Its one thing paying players the most in this league, its quite another identifying and purchasing the best players.

it simply isnt, and that isnt true. this club, with a proper centre forward, sitting top of the league and with squad capable of championship survival would be 10 times easier to sell than a one scratching around the playoffs.

it is the exact opposite of a competent business decision and pure common sense. This team, and club, could be sitting at the top of this stupid league, with a small amount of intelligent decisions. that would be better for him, make the club a better prospect for potential buyers, and of course make it better for us supporters. he has taken another direction though, of purposely doing the bare minimum for the club, happy to accept whatever shite we throw up, and only put any effort into making sure the fans blame each other rather than uniting to blame the one party responsible for all of this. and it seems to be working a treat. just like the tories
He’s not capable of making intelligent football decisions. So he’s noped out and grasped the opportunity to hide behind the fan excuse. It’s a shame that he is successfully obscuring his incompetence in the eyes of some.

Were we not told this would happen in January? Yet we are still relying on that useless lump Wyke and a past it Lafferty up top.

Cheers Stew.
lafferty came in january..disproving your hypothesis..

well yes i agree basically. the problem is though SD isnt the one who should be making football decisions...the manager is, and a director of football.
The first mistake SD made was appointing someone as inexperienced as Jack Ross,,,the second was not appointing a director of football.
it was someting that was alsways going to be a problem, given SDs poor track record..whereby he spends vast sums but on he wrong things.
Paid it back weeks ago didn't he? According to Donald and Madberb. Said he didn't need it now.
he did answer that quesrtion directly...his naswer my be wrong/unconvicngin etc..and indeed in light of subsequent events has been shows to be so..but he did provide and answer.
he also said it was never for the first team.

he has never done it on the xchepa though..spent huge sums..
lafferty probably cost more than boyce..when you factor in lafferty will be on a bigger wage and his signing on fee as a free agent..
same as grigg cost more than all of the alternatives and was shit..

the money is being spent..its just being spent poorly.

The one bit i’d add - and I suspect you’d probably disagree with - is that he’s used Hill as a de facto DoF in most football decision situations. This is evidenced by SDs podcast appearances. So whilst SD specifically stated that he didn’t feel a formal DoF was appropriate - and has at times performed some of the role himself - he used Hill as technical guidance on most football matters. There is nothing in his cv - or SAFCs performance during his tenure - that suggests this was a wise course of action.

well you are right that he has at times used him that way..but he also ignored hills advice on certain things..like bifdding more for grigg..leaving hill to be hung out to dry...

hils cv implies he could be suitable for league one dof role..ceryainly donemore in football than for example his equivalent at lecister city..and they are in the premier league.
The DOF SHOULDNT BE FANOUS OR WELL knownn..and should have experience in a wide range of leagues...thats not to say hill is doing a good job..but that his CV isnt enough to condemn him..because there isnt an established CV Pattern for the role., at any level of the game.

HisCV i certainly better than Jack Ross's was, better than Tony Cotons is, and on a different planet to the CV of the director of football operations at suderland association football club that Hill replaced.
So he is definitely an improvement on his predescessor..which should be the minimum requiremtn,,

now if donald got out of the way of football decisions...we would then know if hill is any good..at the moment we cant know..

thats why so many myths about him have developed on here..

I don't imagine Lafferty will cost more then Boyce mind, he's only here for 6 months. Apparently Boyce is getting about £6k a week at Hearts, and he's got a 3 and a half year contract. Even allowing for the fact that, as a free agent, Lafferty could ask for a higher package for himself, it's pretty obvious that Boyce would have been the higher cost overall. If not there's something seriously wrong and we must be paying Lafferty a King's ransom to generally sit on the bench into March

i doubt hearts pay £6 k a week thats upper end league one money and hearts norally cant compete for upper end league one players....length of contract thats a fair point...
i meant really lafferty will have likely got more than £150k in signing on fee...which is what boyces tranfer fee was?

Its all guesswork really isn't it? I mean, I trust the sun as much as the next person but that's where I've seen the £6k mentioned Boyce will justify £6k-a-week bumper Hearts deal with goals says Stendel

Will Lafferty have got more than 150k signing on fee? I mean, he's only here for half a season. Call it 26 weeks and that's us giving him £6k a week just for turning up, on top of his wage which won't be small either. So what are we giving him overall, about £10k a week plus for the time he's here? If we are then questions need to be asked because surely in this league you'd be expecting a serious game changer for that. Instead we've got someone who hasn't always looked fit, hasn't yet been trusted to start and hadn't yet made any impact

here is the "evidence" of hearts wage levels..

£137,000 a year is the average wage..
the club hasnt a pot to piss in..

i reckon lafferty got more than £150k as a lump sum...but probably not the 6k in wages..that would be the way to do it with a free transfer...

this is the crux of it. regardless of what is, or isnt, spent, if we sign players using the scatter-gun 'wait for them to approach us' system, then it doesnt matter if we spend £1 or £1m, we will forever go round in circles.

is there any evidence that Boyce would have been, or is, better and more suited to us than Lafferty, and would have went straight into the starting 11 ahead of Wyke? i dont know much about him
