Shrewsbury - The Opposition's View

Ross set out to allow Shrewsbury to wear themselves out, keep it at 0-0 and put the pressure on when they tired.

It worked perfectly and we found loads of space in the second half.

If that's being 'shite', in some eyes, then fair enough ..... it's called tactics as far as I'm concerned.

The opposition will obviously come out all guns blazing at the start, trying to mix it with them would be a big mistake imo.

H e seems to have us set up for that in every game bar one - funnily enough the one we lost

Teams seem to be working more on stopping us from playing - high intensity pressing etc - and trying to create something by picking up scraps from our mistakes. We need to improve on picking up second balls arising from that, because, often, when we've conceded first it's come from something like that. It's also what leads to the belief that we're playing badly, although it's more the other team not allowing us to play at all. However, no team, especially in this division, can do that for 90 minutes. As fans, I think we're just going to have to be patient. From what I've seen so far, I reckon we're also fitter than a lot of other sides in this division, and we're going to create a lot of chances late on in games.

We will bury teams from time to time, and it will probably be when we score an early goal, and force them to try to play differently.

People claiming we were shite are missing the point imo.

Ross put his side out to allow Shrewsbury to run themselves ragged which they did.

When the time was right he stuck the knife in with his substitutions.

These matches are a cup game for these teams and it would be daft to try to mix it with them in the first half.

If we can keep 11 men on the pitch Ross will play every game like this.

I thought we played well today, never looked in trouble and I always thought we'd score.

Utter crap and a dozen likes FFS.

You make it sound like a boxer setting up against a superior opponent who has a reputation of gassing in the later rounds. Football doesn't work like that son.

A number of their posters are praising Accrington Stanley, “Accrington are the best I’ve seen...” etc.

They also think their team last season would have ran away with the league this season.

I guess we’ll see how things pan out soon enough.

Exactly, Shrewsbury looked like a pub team in the last 30 minutes ...
... big lads who's Saturday night was catching up with them

Shrewsbury manager post game interview “the 1st goal was like a kick in the teeeth, WE’D STOPPED THEM PLAYING” and he’s not the first rival manager to say it

Oxford looked one of the better teams we've faced this season imo. It's a funny game at times.

I tend to agree with all of this but there’s also one other factor the strength of our bench in each game, fair to say most of our subs would walk into most teams in the league and are able to change the game when they do come on, for instance I bet a tiring Shrewsbury thought “great” when Gooch came on

It’s not often I have seen or said this but the substitutions that were made and the timing they were made changed the game for us. Mcgeady didn’t have his best game but they were doubling up on him constantly, Maja didn’t have his best game either but we have a lot more strength in depth for this league.

Yea they’ll of thought “great we’ve seen him off” then “oh shit Gooch is coming on”

I seem to remember during the 105 point season being at Huddersfield after a 1-1 draw, listening to their fans being convinced they would be promoted and safc were mediocre. They finished fifty points back. Also similar down wolves.

It’s pretty clear that teams are having to bust their guts to live with safc. Eventually their physicality drops and safcs extra bit of quality is winning the games.

In fact I fancy safc to win more away games this season than at home. All to be seen but we are right on course for the 90 points that will achieve promotion.

33 games left, another 20 wins and four draws will be enough, leaving nine defeats.

tbf one of the best teams we've seen is Oxford but only on the once we have seen of them, they can only base it on the one game they have seen. As you say once we hit Christmas it will be interesting to see who is there/there abouts

We had to play 70 mins with ten men against oxford

I know I was there but supporters can only base their opinions on the games they see even if in our case we had a player sent off they Oxford played some decent stuff and on that I surprised they are where they are.
