A lot of similarities between this year and 87/88. We just chugged along first quarter of the season. Even after that I don't remember us playing blistering football yet still seemingly winning games comfortably. Our squad depth will see us keep up the winning momentum throughout the season.

Seems weird the way people go on about Barnsley. People talk about them as though they are the greatest side to ever grace the third tier. They’ve had some awful results this season - draws at home to Wimbledon and Plymouth for example.
I get the impression fans of other clubs want them to do well. Jack Ross is right when he said every game is like a cup tie. Every club this season that we’ve played away have had their highest gate of the season against us, even Bradford had a bigger gate against us than in their Yorkshire derby against Barnsley. As a result of this, team’s tend to start like a house on fire against us, at the SOL as well - only the Scunthorpe and Peterborough games buck that trend. Wimbledon could have been 4 up against us but they ran themselves into the ground and we ended up winning.
Today sounded similar, and this style people play against us will be even more helpful in the winter months as fatigue/hits to training presentations thanks to weather/suspensions and injuries kick in. Didn’t watch the game, listened to it but I didn’t feel at all worried after we went 1 up. The players we have on the bench to bring on is excellent - and that’s despite a plethora of suspensions ans injuries !

I like how people keep bigging up Barnsley, less of the spotlight on us the better. Need to quietly go about our job by continuing to push on and win the games we don’t deserve to. That’s part of what good teams do. If we’re winning but not playing too well I’m not that concerned, really couldn’t give a shit what any other team think as well.

Is this the great Barnsley who got turned over at Charlton ?
Pompey are the team to worry about if worry is the right word.
Decent experienced manager, well organised, physical and decent strikers.
Definite for play offs, and likely top 2.

I hope you're right. We're not at the moment though.

If we continue with the exact same form as we have had up to now, an average of 2 points each game we will go up comfortably

It's pretty much the exact same form that saw us finish top of this league with 93 points from 46 games in 1987/88

I'm not knocking our start by the way, just questioning the 'pissing it' part.

Yup - from where we were sitting, it looked like Jack Baldwin was playing their guy onside. Had another look from the highlights and the camera angle makes it look different though

The flag went up and the ref blew for the free kick.
