Shrewsbury - The Opposition's View

The pattern has continued it seems, another Sunderland win, another club's fans that believe we were average, Barnsley are/will be better and Shrewsbury apparently deserved to win the game, forgetting that a game lasts 90 minutes plus injury time. No credit whatsoever, one even going as far as describing both of our goals as "sloppy" (the first, yes, the second however was a fantastic piece of interplay imo). The usual predictable bitterness.

Sunderland Game | blue-and-amber

It would be nice to see us really turnover a side away from home mind. That said, the win is the most important thing, good performances are a welcome bonus. I just hope we continue to improve, injuries and suspensions have not helped our cause of course. I still think we need to address our slow starts, although the opposition in this league after a flying start do tend to flag and as a result we have tended to take advantage of our superior fitness and persistence in the second half.

We will really click at some point and give someone a kicking. Until then, winning while not playing particularly well is a great sign

You can’t lose 2-0 and say you deserved to win.
We didn’t play well at all and they couldn’t take advantage. Only got themselves to blame.

I’m not bothered if people think we’re crap or Barnsley are better. The table doesn’t lie and we’ll be right in the mix to go up automatically.
Its a marathon not a sprint, with so many new players we are well placed, we've only lost once... JR deserves a lot of credit for results so far

I was in with the Shrewsbury Town fans and the majority around me agreed that today summed up their season - they aren’t playing badly but just can’t seem to take their chances. Didn’t hear a single person say they deserved to win. It wasn’t pretty football but we ground out a result and 3 points - that’s all that matters. On to Doncaster Tuesday night.

We've started just about every game the same and lost once. The manager seems happy for us to be patient, so I'll go with him. Today was the first game for a few where he's not been forced into using his subs, and like earlier in the season he got them bang on. He's not afraid to change it and the fact he doesn't do it straight away says he isn't panicking.

I've said before on here marra sides that can do that often win leagues.

What did our fans sound like mate? Or were you close to the drum?

Really quiet for the first 45 mins which surprised me although that could have been the drum. As soon as the first went in the volume went up from our fans and drown out the Shrewsbury lot. Even my mate who’s a Shrewsbury fan mentioned how loud we were. Class!

I haven't read it (or any of the replies in here yet) but how could they have deserved anything when they didn't create a chance all game? Other than a poor header from a corner, they didn't even threaten to score.

McLaughlin was nice and solid again but did he have a shot to save?

They did miss an open goal early on - god knows how as it was wide open and their player hoofed it well over. Other than that, they didn’t create any real chances

Not really my style and it’s a first but I’m quite concerned at your puppy dog following of me.
Have an ignore
I've replied to very few of your posts over the years so I don't get your stalker allegation. You just get your knickers in a twist when I have a dig at the scotch, it's like taking candy from a baby

People claiming we were shite are missing the point imo.

Ross put his side out to allow Shrewsbury to run themselves ragged which they did.

When the time was right he stuck the knife in with his substitutions.

These matches are a cup game for these teams and it would be daft to try to mix it with them in the first half.

If we can keep 11 men on the pitch Ross will play every game like this.

I thought we played well today, never looked in trouble and I always thought we'd score.

Repeated by a lot of Shrewsbury fans who, at half time said we haven’t seen them play this pace so far this season - they will tire in the second half.

Every team this season will raise their game against us ,
I expect us to be happy going into half time nil nil ,
Unless we get really good and quicker at passing the ball around them ,

I thought we defended strongly and completely nullified any threat they might have posed. Matthews deserves a mention as he was excellent second half.

We didn't always pass the ball as freely as we have done, yet came away two goals clear and comfortable.
