Should get something like the feyenoord legioenzaal set up in the south stand

Because he disagrees with you?

I can't understand how anyone can defend the atmosphere's created in England in recent years. I also think the posters bringing up the atmosphere at Roker Park as some sort of argument to support their reasoning behind not needing to better the atmosphere have short memories. Roker Park was not always a caulron of noise and I imagine the only reason the Roker Roar was so loud and famous was due to the attendance in the ground. That could only be replicated if we could attract a similar number of supporters.

West Ham and Man City fans have both commented on the SoL when it's been bouncing, suggesting there was a "Wall of noise" and that it was an intimidating place to go. These atmosphere's are few and far between, last season was below average imo.

If people wish to try to better it then I'm all for it. We can't get much worse. Hopefully the South Stand is a success.

What the usual suspects on here try to create isn't a wall of noise though, it's childish ditties and hiring DJ's to have a rave on the concourse  That is why they're mocked, I don't think anybody is against creating an atmosphere as such.

Nobody is against the SWC as such either, but they make a rod for their own back by bigging themselves up, looking down their nose at others but don't turn up for cup games and spend a lot of the time shouting generic shit about mini buses at away fans. That's not to say they're all like that, obviously.

The SWC don't turn up for cup games? You make it sound as though the rest of the stadium is full and the SWC is empty. It isn't, it's as full as any other area of the ground during the early stages of the cup competitions.

What's more, I am in the SWC (well...was as I'm moving to the South Stand) and I didn't miss a cup game, home or away.

The SWC fans look down their noses on people? Seriously? Maybe on here for shits and giggles but I highly doubt fans in the SWC actually think they are better than other Sunderland fans in the real world. I think what they do find frustrating is having to take on board opinions from fellow supporters who aren't interested in singing and bettering the atmosphere in the ground and yet feel they should have a say in how the SWC/South Stand is going to work.

I used to sit/stand in the SWC and I'd say there was a definite split between the SWC and the rest of the ground. Again, obviously not everybody, but the main demographic of the SWC is young lads and I think they look down on the non-singers. At the same time, a lot of the non-singers see the pissed up charvs hoying pints about and singing shit at away fans and tar them all with the same brush.

It shouldn't be like that and hopefully it'll change with the South Stand, but they certainly don't endear themselves on here even if it is for "shits and giggles." You have to want to work together with people if you want to improve the atmosphere rather than take the attitude of "you aren't interested in singing, fuck off," which is how it comes across.

The SWC may not be any less full for cup games than the rest of the ground, but as I say, I think there's definitely a bit of a high and mighty attitude from there, no other part of the ground makes a rod for themselves as much as the SWC.

It's a vicious circle though isn't it, if you don't like non-singers having their say, don't antagonise them for "shits and giggles."

That's fair enough but for every song aimed at the away fans/newcastle you get 10+ songs that are pro Sunderland, this you have failed to mention. I don't agree with the where'd you park your mini bus and anti mag drones but I accept that it's banter and happens in all grounds throughout the country, we are no different.

I also disagree that you have to work with non-chanters to ensure that it's a success. It really is quite simple, people either want to be part of it or they don't. Plus, the majority of ideas come from people who never put them into action themselves. Therefore why should they be taken seriously by the ones that do?

You get people on here suggesting songs that don't make sense or are sung by every man and his dog. You get people who want to distance themselves from the term "Mackem". You get people who feel we shouldn't have flags and banners in the ground and that standing is a deadly sin. If we actually listened to people on here, nothing would ever get done and things will continue to stay the same as they are...lifeless and uninteresting.

On a final note...what "ditties" are you referring to? Do you dislike the Sessegnon song? The Lee Cattermole song? They're being sung by thousands of our fans so I can't imagine people will really be bothered if a few frown upon them.

This is all in your collective heads.
I want the stadium to be partizan as fuck and intimidating....however I get sick to the teeth of kids telling me what support is.

But everyone's idea of support is surely different is it not? Also, this is not something I have simply made up, I have taken this on board from opinions in this thread. People can only do what they feel is for the best and you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Me too and if there was a blueprint for how this could be achieved I believe I'd be one of many who would be willing to follow it. Unfortunately there isn't.

Yes it is but many a time on here non SWC people have been flamed by kids like Lauder.

Yeah I realise that and I've been a twat as well but all that shite aside, surely bettering the atmosphere or at least trying to is beneficial to both us as fans and the club itself. I mean this in terms of entertainment (off the pitch) and if you delve a little deeper, marketability (e.g. whenever you see the club trying to sell us something you see photos of our fans standing up, celebrating, singing, the Haway the Lads flag being helf aloft etc. You don't see people sitting down looking suicidal and wishing they hadn't bothered going to the game).

The club wanted the singing section for a reason, they obviously think it is of benefit and there is enough demand for it.

it would be toppa

What makes the atmosphere in british football absolutely piss on all other leagues is the spontanious nature of it. I've been to football matches all over the world and no one else has anything like it, sunderland fans used to be famous for the roker roar.

And now we have people who want to set up some "organised atmosphere", just a further attempt to sterilise the game and take away what makes our league special. And you don't even realise it.

For the majority of league games it doesn't even work for these teams whose atmosphere you want to emulate so badly.

what you fail to realise is the days of spontanious atmos are long gone, all seaters have seen to that. hence you get the good atmos in places where they are organised and the those that arent, like the english, withabsolutely shite atmos.

Well said Marra

The atmosphere certainly used to be triggered by a crunching tackle, a near miss, or even a bad decision. The place would just go crazy.

Of course being an old bassa most of those attempting forced atmosphere were probably too young to witness the Roker Roar.

People who never wore a scarf around their wrist should be banned ;)

Are we that desperate for Europe that we now have to turn our stadium European style?

Don't get me wrong, I love a good atmosphere and have moved to the south stand and will be singing and standing. I just don't see why we would want to copy, bouncing, flares and all that kind of stuff. A few flags will look cracking, but some people go way over the top imo.

You should try going to some of these games rather than watching youtube videos and you'd see these places aren't all they're cracked up to be.

The sol still has its moments and the old firm games will show you all seaters doesn't need to hold us back. Give the fans something to cheer about and the amospheres would be 100 times better.

You want the SoL to be intimidating and yet criticise almost every attempt at anyone attempting to make noise? Something you'll deny but is evident in EVERY thread you appear in that mentions the SWC.

Something doesn't add up..
