noooooooo man. It's not time to make a change, Just relax, take it easy. You're still young, that's your fault. There's so much you have to know. Find a girl, settle down, If you want, you can marry. Look at me I am old, but I'm happy

I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,To be calm when you've found something going on. But take your time, think a lot, Why, think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it. If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them they know not me. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go.

How can I try to explain? When I do, it turns away again. And it's always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk, I was ordered to listen
Now there's a way, and I know, that I have to go away. I know, I have to go.

I've had a mare, couldn't decide which bit to post and changed it about 4 times

Ive been right next to the "ultras" in the Bernabaue (sp?) during a 4-1 win and their cringeworthy.
A bloke in a baseball hat at the front with a megaphone standing on a "hop up" directing the singing. He was also pointing out to his minnions/runners the people who werent singing and theyd trot off to seek em out and have a word in their ears.
"Pricks" would be a good word, "cocksuckers" another.

As scotsmackem says its best when it happens naturally. If the singings nonstop eventually it becomes just background noise.

We were famous for that yes, but the SOL is like a morgue most games and if it wasnt for the SWC trying to make an atmosphere there would be very little at all. The south stand is just a way for everyone who wants to sing to get together.

I do take your point, football has moved on from the Roker days though and has become a more family affair. This has quietened the atmosphere over the years and made it harder for those who want to stand and sing to do so as they are just told to sit down or shut up. This is just a way to try and give those people like myself a chance to enjoy the match while singing their heads off the way they want too. Most English grounds are very sterile now and I would hate for the Roker Roar to die out as it's still there somewhere. If you want an example, look at the North Stand when we first made the move. It was by far the loudest section and that has just steadily declined, not helped by record point relegations.

I just think any attempt to bring any kind of real atmosphere back to the SOL should be supported by all.

FFS How many more times does it have to be pointed out that "The Roker Roar" did not involve "singing".

I do agree that this would be ridiculous and embarrassing. I don't see why we couldn't make something of a home end of the south stand though. Everyone who wants to sing, stand and make a racket goes there. Sunderland fans don't need a guy with a megaphone. Something like an away game atmosphere in the south stand would be great. Something like Everton away in the cup during home games. Surely people must want atmospheres like that at home.

When i say singing and Roker Roar I just generally mean atmosphere. People sing a lot more nowadays than they used too.

Agree with this, no one needs someone on a megaphone, just enough people who are up for creating an atmosphere. Take a look at Feyenoord, best atmosphere in Holland yet no ultras like the rest of Holland

This exactly. I'm hoping the south stand is just a place where there will be 4/5k of us who all just want to sing and get behind the lads. I honestly don't know if i would renew my season ticket again if the atmosphere there next season is shite. I love going to games and supporting the lads but I don't want to sit in silence around people who moan all game.

Couldnt agree more.
I think attempting to create a home end is the best decision SAFC have made for years. Possibly even better than appointing MON. It shouldve been done years ago.
It seems to have taken a bit of American "can do, will do" attitude to defeat the ingrained "Northumbria Police/Sunderland Council wont accept it" attitude thats been in the SAFC board room for far too long now. IE moving the away fns.
Hopefully if it takes off and the home end behave themselves and never invade the pitch they will allow flags on flagpoles in there in a couple of years time. Then who knows maybe even a bit of safe standing in a corner.

How the hell would I be able to drink my Bovril without spilling it if I was in the middle of that? I'd probably drop my tartan blanket and flask as well. It's a no from me.

Me too. The OP is talking about having a pre-match rave on the concourse. Nothing to do with the atmosphere during the match. And if it did happen, our charvers would just seize the opportunity to hoy pints all over like they do at away games.

We will be standing anyway mate. When safe standing comes in, which it will in the future. They will just take the seats out the south stand which wont be getting used anyway.

What makes the atmosphere in british football absolutely piss on all other leagues is the spontanious nature of it. I've been to football matches all over the world and no one else has anything like it, sunderland fans used to be famous for the roker roar.

And now we have people who want to set up some "organised atmosphere", just a further attempt to sterilise the game and take away what makes our league special. And you don't even realise it.

For the majority of league games it doesn't even work for these teams whose atmosphere you want to emulate so badly.

Spot on a cringe like fuck everytime a see the City fans doing the Poznan the bellends

No they won't
The terrace is built for seat not standing, the rake of it, the depth of the steps and indeed the weight issues.

I find it strange that the op has a "against modern football" avatar yet is desperate to embrace all the wankery that comes with it.
I've been in some f***ing brilliant atmospheres at the match and can't recall any involving flags, flares, bouncing up and down or hoying pints about.

I'm just looking forward to the south stand madness next season. Gonna be 7 of us all mates standing together and gonna scream our lungs out.
