If some are going to take things to the nth degree, can it be argued that the only real crime is getting caught?

Getting caught certainly makes you a criminal but if you don't get caught, the same act is classed as deviant rather than criminal. At least, that's what I can remember from basic Sociology at Uni. So a person holding a racist ideology would be classed as a deviant until they committed a racist crime, then they get tagged as a criminal. To me, if you think racist stuff, that makes you a racist, regardless of committing a crime.

I did Sociology and Social Anthropology.
Kinda wish I'd done a bit of Criminology. That sounds about right.
