Would you ever do it? Was at a meal last night and as there was 12 of us a 10% charge was added the service had been good but when the bloke paying half the bill saw the tip he refused to pay as it was discretionary and paid a tenner. He is loaded but just tight. I was so embarrassed I gave the waitress the rest of the tip on the way out. And no she was not fit

Depends. If the service isn't up to scratch then they don't deserve a tip. Haven't tipped at all on a few occasions.

My general rule is good service - 10% quality service - 15-20%

They get what I give them. Don't hold any % or nowt. Usually just round it up.

They are already paid to do their job, why should I increase their pay for doing their job?

Don't get why people think they NEED to tip at all, like anyone gives a fuck. "oo we might get talked about if we don't give 10% tip"...

is the correct answer, gives f***ing restaurant owners an excuse to pay shit wages

tipping should be reserved for those who not only do their job they are being paid for, but go that extra little bit further to make your meal that extra bit special. theres no ground rules to this for me, ie. if the waiter or waitress is miserable, and doesnt have any craic at all, and does the bar minimum, slamming plates down, and if you ask for something they look at you as if you are taking the piss, then they can fuck off if they think they are getting a tip.

i usually tip, if i dont it is more to do with the staff making me feel like i shouldnt, rather than being tight. if the service is extra special i will tip more, as in hotels, bars, restaurants etc.. i think the quality of the service is very important, almost as important as the product

Definitely agree, but I do appreciate good manners, being attentive but not overbearing, and just making the meal a more enjoyable experience. If not, they're getting squat.

It used to until the minimum wage was brought in.....Now they have to pay minimum wage and tips are surely just a habit we are in? (i do tip btw but again only because its the "done" thing)

Pay a service charge or tip - never both.

In a Paris restaurant we once had to endure an extremely rude waiter. I left four centimes on a napkin as a tip, one from each of us. On the napkin we wrote 'fils de bas'. Bastard.

In a Paris restaurant, we were well looked after by it's Chinese owners....we tipped well, but not ridiculously, was dirt cheap and we left about 20%. He returned with a bottle of spirit and these shot glasses )with tiny porn images in the bottom that became visible once the glass was full) and proceeded to make us drink for free for the next hour......he spoke no english, and us very little french but we had a cracking time.

ACcually, me my dad and brother were in a place on Sat afternoon....he wanted to pay and it was 48 quid and left 50. He was offended when I said it wasn't enough and I'd pay the tip as he felt that the £2 was adquate. I stuck a tenner down and he went mad, we eventually settled on a fiver but he took the money to the waitress so I couldn't hoy any more in when he wasn't there.

He's far from tight, but his generation seems to have a problem with the notion of it.

My dad has a strict 5% maximum limit so you may be right about the generational thing.

I used to work in bars and resturants and that as a student, was nice to get a drink bought or a tip but I didn't expect it, I lived off my wage.

I tip if somehas been nice but I don't necessarily round it up to a percentage or whatever, I give what I have or alterantivley what I feel is right. Sometimes I've tipped loads if the person was really a part of making it a good time. But I don't feel obliged to in the UK. I could live off my wages without tips, so can others. It's a bonus for good work in my eyes.

I do whatever the custom is abroad.

My dad always makes a point of giving tips to taxi drivers, despite the fact that most drivers are comfortably well off people. Don't understand it like.

Normally just round up whether the service is good or shit. A bill of £21.10 I'd pay £25 and a bill of £24.56 I'd pay £25.

Don't see why I should tho, I'm a baker and no one fuckin tips me when I make them a tasty loaf or bread bun, twats !!
