Short haul airlines ..........some bad reading here..

Survey was for travel between October 2020 and October 2022. Maybe not a representative period.

Also the cancellation criteria is within 24 hours of scheduled take off. I remember RyanAir cancelling loads of flights, just outside of the 14 day period where they'd have to pay you compensation.

Ryanair are usually very reliable. Their whole business plan revolves around not having any cancellations and departing on time.
They were my savour during the COVID period. The only airline from Alicante to Newcastle that continued to fly or didn't cancel 2 out of every 3 flights. FFS EasyJet completely pulled out of Newcastle, they still owe me money which I can redeem in flights, unless we get to the play off final, that money will never be used.
Doesn’t surprise me Jet2 is top. Excellent service from the staff. Comfortable seats. Good food. Only problem with my flight to and from Spain was the ground crew. They forgot I think to take away the stairs up to the plane so the plane was delayed. I only have experience of EasyJet and Jet2 and of the two Jet2 was the best.

Whizz is exactly what you expect it to be. It’s not a big name with a big reputation. Anyone who goes with these League Two airlines deserves all they get.
How many times have you flown, to allow you to decide Jet2 is top?

Genuinely curious to know what specifically are the negative experiences people had with RyanAir, Whizz etc? Especially for short haul I'm really not bothered about an uncomfortable flight. I'm struggling to know why people have such strong opinions, but equally understand if something out the ordinary happened.
I fly regular with Ryanair and 99% of time it's fine (more punctual than any other airline I fly). Where they completely fail is if something goes wrong. No interest in you, ignore you and wait for you to go away. And you will, very few have the stamina to take an issue over a cheap flight all the way. Ang majority will go back because they're cheap (whilst moaning about them on online forums).

They don't really charge a premium in the most part.

I'm flying to Munich next week with them.. luggage included and it's £118 return with excellent flight times
they do like, and imo its worth it.

planes are decent, ideal times and good airport locations.

Flew with WizzAir last year as they were the only carrier flying to Kosovo (Ba only do it during summer holidays) direct. Only issue we had is they extended the expected flight time so to give them an extra hour in case of delays. I checked the flight on the morning on Flightradar app and each one for the week previous were late taking off but landed within the time frame for compo due to the extra time added on flight time. Also when we landed back at Luton as they pay the least in ground fees they are at the bottom of the list for baggage handlers so we waited in the terminal for 2 hours for our bags.

No issues were serious but after a flight home and then a 3/4 hour drive home waiting around for 2 hours with no updates was slightly annoying. I guess with budget airlines its the customer service that is cut first but for the price paid we should just accept that I guess.

If I were to fly again and one of the bigger carriers also flew there I'd certainly be more inclined to pay extra, how much extra I'd not know though.

Flying Ryanair tomorrow to Riga from NCL
£90 return for me n mrs (no) with a under seat bag each. Was gonna dble the flight price to take a case n flights are 7:45 out n 22:00 back which is excellent n for nowt n why also booked Gdańsk next month for £70 return for both.
Used them a few times now n never had any problem with them.

Twice. Once for EasyJet (Jersey) and the other for Jet2 (Spain). Between the two Jet2 offered good levels of service from its people working in the plane during its flight. They were friendly at all times. I found the food very good. The flight itself was very nice.

I’m yet to try another company. I’m just need to do long haul and to go on a larger plane. I have done short haul internal flight and short haul to Europe. But I’m about to embark on a nigh flight as the plane leaves Newcastle around 3 pm and I get to Fumincino around 7 pm.

Crap poll. Naturally someone using British Airways, KLM or Swiss Airways is going to have a higher criteria than the typical scatters going with Jet2 to Magaluf and comparing prices is just stupid as they're totally different markets.

I can confirm Wizz are shite.
4 flights with them last year.
1st flight 4hrs late.
2nd flight 1 whole day late!
3rd flight 4 hrs late again
4th flight 'only' 2 hrs late.
Abysmal!

They're going bust WizzAir imo. Been struggling for ages surprised they haven't gon yet.

Were absolutely awful last year, budget or not.

The 3rd flight we saw land on time... Everyone got off and it was promptly set to be 2 hours late. Then 3. Then it changed to the next day at the same time. Apparently as it was coming in a cookie of passengers had a fight and punched a stewardess and maybe the captain...
We all filed for compensation but were refused as they stated 'exceptional circumstances' which is every airlines get out clause. Turns out the two passengers were drunk when they got on and weren't stopped from drinking, vaping and even smoking on board! Couldn't make it up!

Aye, we are off to Cork for a mates stag do. The lads from London were originally going to fly from Luton, return stansted with Ryanair, but once all additional costs (luggage etc) it was cheaper to fly from Heathrow with BA.

Wow sounds a rough flight that couldn't be chewed with it. I've seen loads of reports of them just outright not paying some of the refunds over Covid. Sounds like they have really bad cash flow problems.

Not a surprise though easy money selling more drinks we had similar problems with Thomas Cook a few years back swore to never fly on flights like them again and been alright so far touch wood.

Paying a little premium is worth it so you don't have a plane full of knackers.
