You would have thought he would have learnt by now but if the media is correct and we are after Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes because of a recommendation by Walter Smith.
Why would we be even considering anyone suggested by Walter Smith? Does he know anything about Sunderland or even the Championship?
Sunderland is a unique club and it will destroy the wrong Manager. It needs a Manager who understands the Club and has a link with it's history.
Derek McInnes, taking his Scottish jobs aside has been very poor. Slumps of form at Bristol City, 7 consecutive defeats. Appointing him will be one of Short's biggest ill advised disasters.
Can we drop the Scottish connection, thinking that anyone who has done well in Scotland brings any credit.
Jackie McNamara did well at Patick taking them to a Cup Final, at Dundee Utd he also got them to a cup final. At York he was a disaster, taking them into Non League where they are still struggling to recover now.
Success in Scotland should be taking with a pinch of salt.

I tell you something that should be taken with a pinch of salt: the idea that you need to have first hand knowledge of SAFC to understand it and succeed as manager. What a load of horseshit. Good leaders will be good leader regardless of their location, historical links or even fields of expertise. And SAFC isn't an impenetrable riddle. We're a northern football club with a large and passionate fanbase. Give us wins and we'll be fine.

McInnes may be able to deliver that. He may not. But there's no logical reason why he'd fail where Kevin Phillips would succeed.

Other than the fact he's failed already at that level

This of course is a sensible post but appointing Mcinnes smacks of croneyism. I'd much rather have Schwartz, Jokanovic, Wagner or Stam.

No logical reason? Failure at Bristol City seems fairy logical to me.

You want someone who has good experience in the championship and maybe some from the premier league. Knows what type of players is needed, how to save them fitness-wise for a 46 game season. Not someone who has managed to do ok in the Scottish league.

The truth.
Just wish we had someone in charge who had a knowledge of world football and could think outside the box and come up with a Warner or Silva type. Problem for me will be whoever turns will be crippled before they start by the financial mess the club is in. Hope whoever comes knows the truth before they start.

He's been a manager for 10 years and 9 of those years have been successful - his first year at Bristol he saved them, next year sacked. How can you take aside his jobs in Scotland - that is the vast majority. This Board is depressing - desperate to get the last manager out to the extent of 'anyone but Moyes' and then write off the next manager before he starts. And as you do write off that manager ignore the 9 out of 10 years when he's been successful. BTW who is this manager who has a link with our history - are you saying it must be Phillips or Swarchz? It appears that you will support anyone who Short doesn't want.
