Shock horror football spends daft money on daft things. (wickham)

Can't see the incentive for young footballers when clubs are signing them at 18-19 on 25k a week.

Very easy to lose your head, especially if your not too arsed about playing football anyways.

On holiday, end of season, who gives a fuck (bar shitty rags)..

Yes it's obscene money, but that's what this fucked up planet pays blokes who kick a sack around for 90 minutes. f***ing crazy.

A 10 second Google tells me that a Jeroboam of Armand de Brignac costs around £1-2k. The Mail have exaggerate the cost by 10 times.

Assuming it was £2k, that works out at £16 a glass.

Millionaire pays £16 per drink for his mates. Where's my pitchfork?

You haven't added the ocean club's 100% markup but yes, I totally agree.

Those clubs on Collingwood street in Newcastle have bottles of Champagne and spirits for hundreds of quid in there, I'm sure they even sell Champagne for over a grand, and I bet any lad that buys one of those on a Friday night is spending a much larger percentage of their weekly wage in one go than Wickham was spending £17k on that bottle.

He can buy what the fuck he wants if he gets into double figures next season. If he doesn't then he is a lazy, spolied git.

and now, Simon Bird; never one to pass up a chance to rubbish SAFC; has picked up on the story

This. Also if the press are so interested in what Wickham does on holiday they should see the lass he's with, that's much more readable.

He is given summer leave for a reason. To relax and live a life. It is ok to do what he is doing in the complete off season. It is during season where there is a problem.

The expenditure shouldn't be an issue or a complaint for anyone. He can do what he wants with the money that his employers are willing to pay him.

At least he's getting the drinks in for his mates! Seems like a canny lad!

Sends the wrong message, and just makes it hard for himself.

I tend to agree. He seems like a decent kid but if you're in the public eye you need to be careful. He's been mostly off the tabloid radar, but can expect a lot more attention moving forward.

That said, we'd all do the same thing in his situation. It's the money that's the issue, not the individuals.
