Ship Badge to come back permanently?

the old one is great, but thats exactly what it is. an old badge. the club are being very clever in using it for merchandising and retro kits etc.. but thats how it should stay. we currently kind of have two club crests. its great. just leave it alone

But I (and plenty of others) don't think the current one is great, I think it's crap and doesn't stand for anything.

No, but all the lower league clubs copying them to "be more like the big successful clubs" is.

Wycombe, Charlton, Peterborough, Bristol Rovers, Blackpool, Wigan, Reading, Shrewsbury, Fleetwood
It is to be more like them at all. It’s for branding purposes.
They bring in a lot of money form the oversees market, for example. Look at big brands, many have reverted to simpler logos since the 90s as they are more palatable these days.

This is a masterstroke from Bruce and its time for change without a doubt

I would have the ship badge back in a heartbeat (if thats what the fans want), much more clear and recognizable - never been a fan of the current (Im not an old fud stuck in the 80s its just a much better badge!)

A lion steering a ship, then everyone is happy😂
I'd round the top corners of the old one and have the main bit of the current badge instead of just red and white stripes underneath the ship if they were to blend the two

Exactly. The Latin logo had zero association, the lions have nothing to do with our history (possibly black cats but that’s tenuous), a bit of a bridge (which isn’t exactly iconic) and Penshaw monument.
The only bits any way relevant are the red and white stripes and pit wheel.

I really don't think copying Man Citys badge will affect the bottom line of any clubs. Branding is about more than just being a knock off version of someone better, particularly in football where success is the best form of branding.

As much as its gotten boring, Wrexham are arguably the strongest brand outside the top 2 leagues and they have an old style heraldic badge. About half of league 2 is man city knock offs, the rest are shields, with only a handful having the coat of arms look.

Tin hat on, but the badge is the least of our worries at the moment.

It would also require rebranding the existing stadium, academy, offices etc. at some expense.

Leave as is until a point in the future where it makes more sense.

I'd have no objection putting it on an away/third/training kit, but ffs get the real issues at hand (a new manager for a start) sorted.

Easiest way would be to have 2 or 3 designs then let everyone log into their season ticket accounts and have a vote, as there’s no design that everyone’s gonna be happy with. At least that waythe club could say we let season ticket holders decide

If I'm being completely cynical/ my most capitalist I think there's absolutely a branding job we could be doing re: working-class nostalgia.

There's plenty of places across the world (US, Canada, Australia, Asia etc.) where people are proud to come from industrial or post-industrial towns, and supporting a PL team (if we get there) that is proud of its industrial history would be interesting/ appealing to them. Look at the way the Steelers in Pittsburg do it in the NFL. Having a stand out badge that shows that heritage would be important to that.

But one doesn’t affect the others. As I said, this lad was head of branding of an a tire national league and helped build it. He knows his stuff.
