Ship Badge to come back permanently?

probably the least important issue at the club at the moment. how much are they going to waste on this shite?

the use of the old badge is very clever marketing currently, taking advantage of the popularity in retro kits etc.. but its just a passing phase.
Agreed.

Also the new badge symbolized a new start and era which coincided with the best/attacking/entertaining football most of us have seen in our lifetime. Why hark back to the depressing old days of later years Roker Park and the drudgery that came with it?

There is a poster on his here mocked up a modern version of the ship badge and has it as their avatar, which looks great imo

Hope not. Looks like a child drew it. On the back of a packet of Seabrook ready salted.

Cheap and old fashioned, not in a good way.
Or… simple, straightforward and very much a modern-looking club crest especially when compared to the fussy and over-complicated current manifestation.

Just look at the crests/logos of the world's biggest clubs and biggest brands. Instant impact, instant recognition, that's what you are after. And minimalism will (nearly) always rule there.

The current Sunderland crest wouldn't even make the longlist if a new one was being devised today. It served its purpose for when we moved from RP to SOL. That was over 25 years ago. Time to move on (or back, but with a 21st Century twist, perhaps).

Like we just have with everyone going mental for Hummel?

We also won out only trophy in the last nigh on 80 years with the ship one as the official badge. It was on Stokoe’s suit.

Eh? Where have I said that? Other than Boro, Chelsea and Bristol City, I’m struggling to think of others who have anyway.
Man City had a circle badge years back and reverted to it - because the 90s shite isn’t good for branding.
Villa Brighton Brentford, Sheffield United. Luton is a bit different but still sort of follows the style.

Leicester, Blackburn, QPR, Swansea, Millwall.

I can go on, but cheap and nasty simplification is the way forward.

I’ve only ever known our current one. If they bring back the ship badge then they’ve got to decide on the blue or black one which will cause even further divide. Just leave it imo.
