Sheff Wed Players…

They did, we played well and were the better team.
We didn’t really sit back to try to protect it.

We are never going to be on the front foot for 90 minutes, especially against the better teams in the division. There will be times when we need to defend for periods of the game. The lads put a shift in last night.

How on Earth is us winning better for them than us?

Why is everyone shitting their knickers after such a positive result
I'm not. But 2 0 wpuld have been a fairer reflection and their fans and players know it.

I do think we'll get through. Wednesday are a very average side. Dud nothing last night. Of course, they'll be better than this down there but we don't concede many and unbeaten for a dozen games now?

Some right fatties in their team like.

Their centre forward looked as if he’d lost a few pounds since we played them in December mind.
Gregory?

Was hassling our centre backs all game to be fair to him, looks a hard worker.
A combination of their poor front two, plus not convinced he was fully fit, meant that he wasn't at his best. he is key to their play.
Their fans have often said Bannan has often had time on the ball in the games he’s impressed in. For 75-80 minutes, O’Nien did not give Bannan one second on the ball without pressuring him. Most of the errors Bannan made was down to the pressure he was put under.

He’s a very good player is Bannan, when he’s not being put under pressure.

Aye Gregory. Looked a hard worker and the type of player who'd have suited us down to the ground in the last few years where we'd been lacking prior to RS coming in.

A goal up before a ball is kicked and we need a win or draw.
Lose by 1 and it's penalties.

It's a great situation to be in

We need to employ a combination of gritty defensive work (which AN has got us set up nicely doing), hitting them with explosive counters down the sides and using the odd League One ****housery tactics which we've learnt from over the last few years (we did a little of it last night at the right times).

I am confident we can get over the line come 10pm Monday.

I'm not surprised they were happy to walk away with a goal down. They were ready to crumble in the first 20 mins of the 2nd half and they could/should have been walking away 2 or 3 down easily.

Keeps them in the tie.

Partly O'Nien, but because their team couldn't get the ball to stick up front (your defence gave them nothing) they were always on the back foot and he couldn't get involved. Not sure what caused the last 15 minutes of the game to change so much, but all of a sudden they were able to get up the pitch as a team, and Bannan suddenly became more dangerous. Thought only Palmer carried a real threat, yet Sunderland found loads of undefended space down his side during the first 15 minutes of the second half (Clarke's side). Most of the good play on the other wing during that period was from Roberts going past players.

We sat back and protected a 1-0, which let them into a game they were never in, for 20 minutes. A mistake I think by AN. I like to be proved wrong. Celebrating losing by a small amount! They are still in it but the were nowhere near good enough tonight.
Was it Alex Neil or was it them making adjustments and us tiring? I think more the latter.
Better result for them than us given how the game went. Could tell that by their fans celebrations. Going to be very nervy next week now
I wouldn't be celebrating if I was them, or pleased. More relief that they still in the tie, recognising there is a lot of work to do and they'll have to perform much better.

For us we also have a lot of hard work to do but can take positives about the performance. Wish we had got another when we were turning the screw early second half. By same token I'm pleased they never got 1 in last 15 minutes. If they had it would have been a massive boost for them and really knocked the stuffing out us.
Their celebration was a bit ott but if we'd played away first and only lost by one I'd fancied our chances at turning it around at home.
Was it a full on celebration or them just trying to galvanise eachother at half time of a tough tie?

Think the last 15 mins was tiredness on our part.

Celebrating at the end as if they’d won 1-0, fist bumping, high fiving and back slapping.

Our inability to finish teams off when on top might come back to bite us again.

We'll definitely score down there so they're going to have to score 3 or more to win this in real time. For what it's worth I think we'll beat them away as well. Unsure why they'd feel confident after being bossed most of the game.

I wouldn't disagree with that. I've attended all 3 games vs you this season and I haven't been impressed. Even the 3-0 game at your place we simply rolled over

They basically took their chances and we didn't that game. We don't give away chances as much now as we did back then. We had more possession and more shots that night
