Sheepfolds area

Can’t see the esports centre working out at all. British people just aren’t into esports. I’m a massive watcher of it and the amount of people who cringed at FIFA being played on SkySports during COVID showed how uninterested British people are.

Absolutely huge in countries like Sweden and certain games are classified as an official sport in South Korea. Just has no place in England unfortunately.
Maybe this will change with demographic change. As a grumpy old sod I have absolutely no interest in it as it just seems a modern take on watching people playing Subbuteo.

But if it doss take over , how amazing would it be that we took a chance and ourselves ahead of the game

Tried and tested already back in the 2010’s there’s just zero national interest, if you don’t have an audience you don’t get sponsors, if you don’t have sponsors you don’t get paid, if you don’t get paid then you may aswell be claiming Universal Credit.

England is massively behind the rest of the world.
The likes of PSG, Bayern, Dortmund have their own sponsored Rocket League teams because they get their money via sponsor exposure on a different platform.

Been the case for a while now not a single British team has followed suit
.
It’s purely a culture thing. You can find esports on Korea national television but you will never ever find it on the BBC in our lifetime. There’s been documentaries about it etc. it’s like enforcing sharia law in the middle of Pennywell. It’s not gonna work.

how is there "zero national interest" when British Esports themselves are actually opening this to be the esports hub of the UK?

Stop talking about something you don’t know what you’re on about would be my advice.

eSports is so alien in Britain and Ireland that the only British based team team fucked off to America for better chance of sponsors and that was over 10 years ago. How about that.

You might be right but surely they have a reason to be doing this now? Especially with the money they are spending down Sunniside

Clearly these people are clueless and they should have asked coyneee off the smb his advice before wasting their time, amateurs

Maybe sunderland will be on the forefront of a massive push and start ahead of the game in the UK

Here's the full time-scale for developments and a report on progress so far. It all looked a bit pie in the sky when they began, but credit to them - they've got the first phase done, and we're now seeing the 12 developments scheduled for 2023-24. Sheepfolds - as in the full housing / community development - is in the third phase, which is more long-term at this point.

Reading it all, one line that intrigues me is about them "having established and tested the new traffic management regime" on St Mary's Boulevard (the 'Way' gets promoted) by the end of next year. Not sure how you can change the main road through the city, though.

Still too many threads on this all, mind.

Thanks for that and looks Like everything is happening on schedule.

And I know what you mean about threads, would be great to have a forum to have posts about individual projects

Do you know what also wasn't popular 10 years ago. Women's football.
Since 2017 uk esports revenues have almost trebled & projected to continue growing.

Having the rugby womans world cup in Sunderland has made me think what can be achieved by the time this happens in 2 years Time.

I know the stables is happening, Edward Thompsons is currently been demolished and we finally have go on the esports and design academy's.

We also will have the bridge across to the city centre.

The council need to push these developments now as we want to give a good and lasting impression of the area.

Don't know if everything is possible in 2 years but would love to walk to one of thr rugby games with everything looking very different after a quick pint in the botanist
Likely not possible within the decade but would be nice for club owners to wash the sol and invest in improvements, and I don't mean mismouted teles

Love to see them do something with the north entrance to the station, but that’s probably pushing it
Instead of wasting money on the hole in the ground. They should have totally redeveloped Monkwearmoth Station. Created a new entrance on the Sheepfolds side. Stretched the platforms down to St Peters for disabled access. They could have created a new Gateway to the City.

It's Grade II* listed (there's only about a dozen of them in Sunderland and even less Grade I listed) which restricts what you can do. You certainly wouldn't be able to totally redevelop it, just minor alterations here and there. Any attempt at major changes would likely lead to legal challenges.

At the end of the day we need more people visiting Sunderland City Centre, using Monkwesrmouth station as the main city centre station would do the opposite.
