Shane Long

Pace, movement, graft and he knows where the goal is.

Yet some reckon he's not good enough for bottom of the league Sunderland.

yet only has 1or2 more than fletcher this season

One or two more than Fletcher could have been an extra 3 or 6 points though!

For the position we are in, I'd be surprised if he would actually come, but he's about the best we could expect, in fact tbh he's probably better than anyone I would have expected, and for 2-3m it's a no brainer IMHO.

can't believe we're back to the position of wondering wether average players would come here. cheers short

Decent quality but blows hot and cold. Not really any better than Graham, when you consider Graham's form at Swansea.

I'd say his pace and movement are better than Graham, different types of player though IMHO.

Might even compliment each other, maybe the Long/Graham dream team can fire us to safety.

Aye, very different tbf, and when Graham's not scoring he offers nowt, whereas Long is a decent attacking player generally.

Long's alright, but him replacing Fletcher is a depressing thought. We're building a squad for next season's promotion challenge if that happens.

The main problem with any of this is it's very unlikely he'd want to come here to face a drop in wages and dropping a league. The same with any players we are trying to sign.

I'd take him. cracking signing for you if you could pull it off

Graham will at least work the centre halves (see performance v Newcastle away) but I see what you mean, he's a bit of a 'static' player who will rely on balls to him in the box, whereas Long gets behind and into the channels.

Fletcher's performances are depressing enough at the moment. I'd welcome someone with some pace and movement and a decent goalscoring record. It's the lack of goals that'll see us go down this season, and I've no idea who we could realistically get who would fit the bill who might be able to address that.

At the moment, Shane Long seems to be the best suggestion so far.

And at this current time, there's a massive chance of us being in the championship next season, so if we are buying players who can also do a job for us there, then so be it.

Long has really good movement, Fletcher and himself would compliment each other very well imo.

His pace is frightening too, he isn't an out an out goalscorer/poacher, but i do believe he would score 8-10 goals year in year out in the PL if he was played in his best position, he often gets played on the wing that often goes unnoticed when looking at his stats.

Anyone who is calling him an average Championship player has obviously not seen much of him, i see him play every time Ireland play live.

If nothing he would give us genuine pace upfront. Perfect world we'd be looking at a higher quality of player, the reality is though people would question Long for even thinking if joining us.

Think a few in here need a reality check - we are absolutely shit, in fact we have gone beyond shit, not a very good prospect for any player from a top division that's looking to push on in his career.

Shane Long is extremely humble, all he want's to do is to play week in week out at club level that in turn will see him an as automatic starter for Ireland.

At the minute, he is the type of player we are lacking up top! For not a big man, he is very good at holding up the ball and acting as a support player if needed, hence why Robbie Keane loves playing up top with him.

He is a very good player. Cant believe some of the comments on here.[DOUBLEPOST=1387885507][/DOUBLEPOST]
Maybe yous should go for him given your best striker is only on loan and will be playing elsewhere next season
They might. They have tried to sign him before.

Long would offer a different option to what we have on our books atm, mainly pace and finishing. If we got him and a creative midfielder (to replace Larsson) we would have a much better chance of getting out of the mess we are in. Despite all the doom and gloom I don't think we are too far off from having a team that can win games consistently against teams in and around us.
