I would say summer 2011 was worse topped off by letting Gyan leave AFTER the window had closed.

Still can't believe we went from having Darren Bent, Gyan and Welbeck in January 2011 to having Nicklas Bendtner up front by the end of the Summer.

Attacking midfielder. Theres probably a clue in there somewhere I'm sure.

You're getting closer at least. His role was completely different to any 'midfielder' we have had that I can remember.

When you have no defensive responsibilities in your own half of the pitch then you are not a midfielder by any stretch of the imagination.

Why does this board constantly have threads about X player and "would have him back" etc etc.

I know, lets get Gary Bennett back.

Welbeck wasn't ours, united wanted him back and he wanted to go back
Bent was angling for a move and his head was turned. Quinn said we tried everything ( matched the villa package ) but he wanted out.
Gyan wanted more wages.Simple
It hurt like hell, but frankly I liked the bendtner/sess partnership. It was our midfield that was the problem, hence why NB kept coming deep to get the ball because the midfield was gash. he got pelters for doing it, but he was used to playing football.
Those that lambasted him get their football knowledge from the beano and dandy

Produced less last season for WBA than Giaccherini did for Sunderland.
facts wont sit well with the doomies. They've made up their mind. Every player we let go, was let go too cheaply and also was an irreplaceable superstar

What's funny? We stopped up and got rid of an underperforming player for decent money.
7 goals/9 assists and 7 goals/3 assists in his last 2 seasons. No end product?
Borini scored 7 (3 of them from the spot) and assisted 2, yet he's the new savior. While Jozy scored 1 goal a full season.

I'm expecting better things from Giac next season n'arl.

Who said he never had any end product and when is Borini the new saviour?

A lot of people on here.
What's your take on him then? What would you expect from him really? In a lot of games he was the only one who was a threat.

Considering the entire team was set up to allow him to do whatever the hell he wanted and for everything to go through him I suspect the minimum he should have been doing was to look a threat.

He was capable of more than we got from him. He was becoming less effective towards the end of his time here and i didn't lose any sleep when he was eventually sold. To give ourselves next to no time to replace him wasn't ideal mind but, as West Brom fans will testify, he is massively inconsistent nowadays and when he is off his game he's pretty much a passenger imo.

6m quid was decent money at the time and looks even better value now.

And this. To call him a midfielder is plain bollocks tbh. He was given the free'st of free reigns.

A fantastic little player.

Some (plenty) were adamant that he was shite because he was inconsistent, but he was capable of brilliance and being a match winner. In a way its the same shite Johnson gets from sections of the support now, I think you have to question whether these people really understood the true role he played, lost count of the amount of times on here people claimed Sessegnon was a striker.

One of my favourite Sessegnon moments was at home to Norwich, a lovely nutmeg just inside their half, a cracking ball played out wide to (Fraizer Campbell?) who then put in a class cross where Sessegnon continued his run to head home.

Class little player, class memories of him here.

The difference between success and failure is consistency. No good bringing out the brilliance every now and then when you fancy it. At Premier League level they need to be able to contribute in some fashion even when their strengths aren't coming off. The doubt/frustration in the players you have mentioned is justifiable.

Can't believe we let him go based on them two assists against Shrewsbury like. Have to wonder what's going on at the top level of the club.

I'll let you argue amongst yourselves over how good/bad Sess was for Sunderland.

All I'll say, as an Albion fan who watched him last season, at 6mill (?), he was an absolute snip.

Thank You, carry on.

That goal was fantastic like. I can also remember scuffing wide in amazing positions, or practically kicking the floor when the goal was begging. Ironically some of these shots end up counting for him in the assists column.
