Theres nothing 'wrong' with him.

He has just set himself such incredibly high standards that whenever he doesn't show the same game in game out all sorts of things about him start to get questioned.

Nowt to do with his performances it's his general all round miserbleness and stinking attitude

When you're guaranteed to best player award despite being no where near and adulation even when you do nowt it might go to your head
Or maybe you know you don't deserve it, and it freaks you out. He's used as a cash cow by loads of interested parties, and because of that he's under pressure to perform better than every other player on the pitch whatever. Maybe he's just cracking under that pressure.

How do you know he's got a stinking attitude? Have you got a best friend in the Argentina camp who tells you all the gossip?

Walking off thru teamtalks absolutly no encouragement towards team mates he was like a black cloud of doom he rhinksnhes above everyone in that team it's obv to see

I'm just glad that the wankathon is now over, at least for the time being, as he's been exposed as a very decent player but not quite the messiah. The way they went on about him on the telly over here was embarrassing, had the cameras on him almost continuously. A play breaks down that he wasn't even involved in and there's a zoom to him to show his reaction. Seemed like every possible chance outside of the game in motion they were zooming in on him, and even worse at the end (when he seemed kinda detached, not jumping for joy of course but seemingly not even that boshed about losing). I just kept wondering why are they keep focusing on that loser, why aren't they showing the Krauts celebrating?
This year's Batistuta - built up to a ridiculous height by the media, exposed as a mortal.

If an unknown player had stepped up with his contribution to the world cup, everyone would be wanking over him. SSN would be showing highlights packages of him on rotation whilst getting 'Arry on the phone to confirm that he is "Triffic and would be great at QPR". They would be interviewing the people of London on the streets who would all claim to have spotted him coming through the youth ranks of Braga B back in 2001.

A victim of his own ridiculously high standards.

Been watching Messi last 7 years and for t he last 12 months something isn't right. He's still got the pace to go past people, still has moments of sublime skill and still can score some amazing goals. He looks human now Now when he plays I don't expect him to score. He often goes 3 or 4 games without a goal He never smiles, looks disinterested and fades out of games. Has he got some illness we don't know about? what with being sick 5 times on the pitch during games. I don't know the answer but he is just a 6.5 out of 10 player most games now, just doing the minimum to get by. To be fair he is in a poor argentina team, but it was the same when in the Barcelona team. Is he ill ? depressed? or just bored
There's no room for skilful, attacking minded naturally talented players in the modern game. Of course he's pissed off. Pele would be hacked off being hounded by three criminal adversaries every time he got near the ball. Nobody could cope with that kind of pressure coupled with that of the media. The Blatterites even understand that and reward him accordingly. For a lad from the back streets of Rosario to achieve what he has done is remarkable.

Could there be anything in the fact that he has now lived in Spain for longer than he lived in Argentina?
Perhaps feels more affinity to Spain?

How many goals has he scored in the last 12 months.

He's carrying an injury I think, but a 60% fit Messi should still be a great player, still doesn't change the fact he's 40% fucked.

That, or he's exhausted and needs a proper break, or the growth hormones are having an adverse effect on him now his body is getting older.

Looked like he could not give a toss the entire game. Strolling around without a care in the world.

That freekick at the end summed it all up. Playing for himself and not the team.

Thought that was summed up completely when he was wandering around on his own whilst the manager was giving the team talk before extra time.
