Seriously, what is wrong with Messi?

To be honest I think it was a shame that Argentina didn't pick him to play in this World Cup. The lad clearly isn't going to develop by being excluded from such tournaments....hold on.....
FIFA player of the tournament ;), can't see how you would think that he has largely been anonymous. Argentina got top the final so he must have carried them though the knock-out stages.

Shouldn't be captain

In the semi it showed the huddle and Mascherano did all the talking and Messi did fuck all.

Looked like he could not give a toss the entire game. Strolling around without a care in the world.

That freekick at the end summed it all up. Playing for himself and not the team.

There was a moment in the second half where the Germans were knocking the ball around him, and he literally just walked around. Absolutely no attempt whatsoever to put any pressure on, or take away the angle to pass, or anything. He just walked.

I don't care how tired anyone is, it's a World Cup final. Schweinsteiger and Mascherano would run a marathon and still give nothing short of everything they had in a World Cup final.

The spotlight and the pressure it brings is starting to get to him. Even listening to the BBC commentator, co-commentator, and the studio pundits you'd have been forgiven for thinking we were in the presence of a God like entity.

(not after his free kick admittedly, THAT shut them up, finally.)

Messi looks as if he has mental issues. Does he go to a day center? Lad should break free and find a place
That makes him comfortable.

His team mates got them through. As people have said he wasn't even the best argentine player never mind player of the tournament.

Dr Foster being banned from practicing in Gloucester hasnt made his "slump" of the last year or two look too good tbh.

He's captain in name only. Mascheranos obviously the managers man on the field....if not the manager himself already. Like England both Argentina and Portugal have commercial obligations with clients who would prefer Messi and Mascherano as captain in the same manner that we had Beckham.

I watched it pissed outside a packed beach bar full of Germans with German commentary on a wobbly canvas projection screen with a super moon rising ower the sea just before half time so my concentration on the game wasnt what it couldve been tbh.
He seemed to be playing ower on the right with Higuain as the central striker. Both me and MrsRaff and the Germans at our table agreed that if the German management team couldve picked a position for him to play in that wouldve been it. As soon as Higuain went off he got the ball in his normal false9 position and danced past four defenders deep into the box.
They wasted him out wide and I think theres enough deep thinking press boys ower there, in Germany and Spain who will be pointing this out.

Someone mentions upthread that Ronaldo is more likely to pull a team through on his own and thats a crackin point. Still neither of em would get a game for us ahead of Danny G and Jose A though.

it's because you are seeing him over 90 minutes instead of the youtube highlight reels you are used to. he isnt fantastic every second of every match and like everyone else he has good games and bad games.

I concur. to a degree. However, in terms of the final third, he was easily their best player, even last night. Not sure how you can say his team mates got them through though. Goals ultimately win games (thats why forwards go for the big money) and he was the one doing it when the rest were failing in the group stages.

Depression I reckon or he's been caught bucking about, I think he will retire early looks like he's not in love with the game anymore
