Sentence of David Carrick.

More powerful quotes from the sentencing remarks of the judge:

"The malign influence of men like you in positions of power stands in the way of a revolution of women’s dignity."

"The criminality you have admitted may be called an unrestrained campaign of rape and abuse of women, it could be described as the work of a serial rapist but it may not be possible to encapsulate succinctly the broad devastation you have caused through sexual violence and exploitation, all the time carrying the unique and defining office of a police constable."

This is a very difficult line for the media for all the reasons she explains in that thread. However, IMHO and after consultation with the victims, full detail should be given. I don't know what it's going to take to make the criminal justice establishment, and wider society, wake up to the horror of the violence that some men dole out to women, and that it's more or less possible to rape with impunity in this country, but maybe showing exactly what these crimes involve will go some way to doing that. Separately I listened today to how Emmett Till's mother insisted his casket was open so that the world could see exactly what a lynching involved, and many argue that in doing so she helped kick off the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Sadly, sometimes we need to show people the full nature of the horror in order to get the change that we so badly need.

Absolutely agree with this. The nature of what he did is sickening, completely and utterly sickening. I desperately want to know how men get to a place where they can inflict such a level of pain and degradation, and get a thrill from it. Because how can we combat it if we don’t acknowledge it?

I wonder if senior police have ever considered that if they had the publics trust and help, their jobs and success rates would be higher.

All those years working with "Dave the serial rapist". How do they sleep at night ?

In a way, I’m glad a woman gave him his sentence.

I've just been watching it there on sky news. 30 years did seem lenient to me however sentencing guidelines made it so that a third was knocked off for an early guilty plea, otherwise it would've been around 48.
He didn't even enter an early guilty plea, he only pled guilty in the last couple of months.

From the sentencing remarks:-

'You pleaded not guilty to all charges when arraigned at hearings between December 2021 and December 2022. You changed your pleas in December 2022 and January this year.'

Bastard should never see light of day again, he has ruined so many peoples lives 🤬 .

The third off was only on 1 charge, I think he got 20% off the rest.

The plea despite being entered late prevented the victims from having the ordeal of reliving their situation in court.

The chances of him walking out of prison are slim. If he does walk out of prison he'll be too frail to do anything other than exist.
The biggest issue is why the met keeps allowing this stuff to happen.
There should be internal monitoring of all officers at all times from recruitment to retirement.

Every other time bad shit happens in the Met one of the top brass is wheeled out to say it's an isolated bad apple and there's nothing they could have done. They're not interested in fixing the problem. At Chief Constable level they're too busy making sure they cover the arse of whichever top Tory is in trouble and securing the ensuing knighthood and future career opportunities

Public trust, any time the police are berated for being corrupt there's a massive uproar from people who trust them. It goes right to the top, cover ups are rife in all Police forces as is corruption.
