Selling Jewellery - Hatton Garden

Mrs Pop (no) wants rid of some of her old jewellery that she doesn't wear anymore. It is all gold and some with diamonds.

Has anyone sold or know anything about selling old jewellery in Hatton Garden? I've read online you can get a better price there and I'm in London for work tomorrow so wondering if it is worth a detour?

Took it to a few places in Leeds and the offers varied wildly. I realise you get no where near retail price wherever you sell it but some of the offers were ridiculous.

Scrap prices for the gowld
Yes, they will weigh the jewelry, calculate the value of the gold and offer you that price..... and I assume they will do something similar with the value of the diamonds. They are not interested in the jewelry, just the gold. We sold some stuff there a few years ago and it was the best price we could get i.e. it was more than local jewelers offered. Worth going along if you are in London anyway and comparing what they offer to what you have been offered before. They will tell you what they will offer you in a few seconds.

I've sold jewellery privately there and also worked with different parts of the trade for many years, there are a range of competitive gold buyers who will buy purely based on gold value, and there are jewellery stores who will buy second hand pieces of jewellery. Different pieces will be worth more as gold and some more as a piece - depends on the karatage of the gold and the quality of the stone and manufacturing.

Know the karatage and weight of the gold you're taking and its value compared to the London fix. You'll do well to get much over half of the value as it needs to be disassembled and refined by the buyer, but you'll get more there than a local buyer. Assuming it is hallmarked and made well the specialist jewellery buyers may give you a better price. Shop around on the day, they're all in the same hundred yards of street.

Cheers mate, any shops you would recommend?

Wouldn't be making an informed recommendation if I did tbh, there are big "buying centres" to start at but also lots of small mom and pop shops, Pop. They may give a better offer as they're more likely to resell the piece rather than just sell as part of a job lot to Mastermelts. They may be much more selective about what they buy though.

It's a fun experience, enjoy being a wheeler dealer!
