If only we'd invested in railways, we could have most of our goods moved around by 50 or 60 platooning vehicles on a completely separate network.
Here comes the roll out of automation, inevitable mass unemployment imo

Seems mad. Think it will cause problems at slip road as has been mentioned and tailbacks when a normal lorry decides to overtake the whole platoon at a few mph faster than it is travelling at.
The implications are frightening. Especially if Nissan get left behind.
But not an overly expensive high speed onethat is half the plan of hs2 but no one will listen
you cant have a high speed train and then a freight one gogin at 40 mph
you need additional lines

Better use of the rail system between 10pm and 6am would help. Problem is not just the cost of providing extra rail lines (or roads), but the amount of time it takes to get from the initial plan to someone actually putting a spade in the ground, can take decades.that is half the plan of hs2 but no one will listen

Problem with running trains overnight is the noise as lines run through built-up residential areas. Years back I stayed at a mates house which was right by a sidings hunting area in the outskirts of Birmingham. The noise was horrendous, ad as it was a hot summer night it was either close the windows to dull it a little but then sweat all night or open the window and listen to trains screeching and banging all night.Better use of the rail system between 10pm and 6am would help.
