Self checkouts in Aldi

Rubbish. Checkout workers now pack click and collect.

Creating jobs as a drivers weren’t needed previously. Nor was the website or finance architecture on it.

All of those automated checkouts need people to design, program, manufacture, market, sell, install and repair them creates a lot of supply chain activity.

If people want a high skill high pay economy then you can't also complain when low pay low skill jobs are eliminated.

This is like the pandemic, people are absolutely incapable of understanding the the second and third affects of decisions.

AI doesn’t take jobs off people - it enables additional job creation.

Stage 1: Click and Collect or home delivery, checkout workers change role to packers.

Stage 2: Delivery drivers employed.

Stage 3: Website designed for e-commerce and had a staff maintaining it.

Stage 4: More manufacturing jobs dor
Refrigerator vehicles that weren’t needed previously.

Change in consumer habits means customers have better experience and additional jobs are created.
I am capable of understanding it don't be such an arrogant arse. automation and AI is going to have a massive impact on the jobs market especially affecting low skilled workers. Yes other jobs will become available but they won't be a suitable alternative for everyone and if businesses can save on wages and pension contributions etc they absolutely will take advantage of it.

Call centres will be next. Already most things can be done online or via an app but the need for human operators will virtually eliminated when a single AI computer system can handle thousands of simultaneous calls in multiple languages;

Mrs Coat (no) - walked out of Lidl's at the Prospect when there was only the self service till open.
She asked for a till with a human being on to serve her, but was told by a staff member that they were all too busy.
She just dumped her basket on the deck, and walked away.

I wait longer in ALDI than I do in Lidl. Lidl has self checkout, ALDI doesn’t.

There’s also a Lidl a little further away with no self-checkout. I wait longer in that Lidl than my closest Lidl.

Self-checkouts make things faster.
Faster? By the time I’ve called the women over about a hundred times…I disagree!
