Second Test - NZ v England

Still think it's crazy someone of his talent is batting soo low.

Fair enough worked this time, but if Wood never got unlikely runs, we could have had a situation where Bairstow could have ended 30 odd not out, while the team was all out.

Which would be criminal, at the moment he is our second best batsman, batting with the tail!

We'll, that was all a bit predictable. Not enough players in this side capable of building an innings. Cheap wickets, middle to lower order digging us out again. Hopefully we can add 50-70 in the morning and get into them,

I can't make my mind up about it

Swann talked well about it on air, said he understood the calls to move him and even Stokes up, but they are 2 of the only parts of the team that aren't broke, leave them be. We'd only have to find a new world class keeper batsman and a world class number 6, which I don't think we possess

Let them be is probably the wisest

Agree. Leave them at 6 and 7, focus on finding talent at 2,3 and 5

Too risky imo, I think in the second test in the Ashes in a absolute pitvoal game when we were trying to save the game Bairstow actually ended up batting number 8. And was last man out on 36!, that was criminal.

There is a very real chance as Broad now batting 8 that our most in form batsman could be stranded not out for next to nothing thus wasted, that can't be good.

Plus I know we have had this discussion before and slightly disagree but Bairstow gets runs because he is a good batsman has really worked hard on his game and now is a more accomplished player.

Imo that is the reason above all why he is scoring runs not where he is in the actual order.

I know his record is good at 7 but there is now no Ali at 8 and honestly think batting him a little bit higher up the order what not make much difference to his scores and would ultise his talent more.

I do believe Mark Wood scored 50 !!!
Tbf, Woakes and Wood should both be in the team for their batting at the moment. They even look better technically than pretty much all the top order except Root (if he's classed as top order and not middle). You could also add Overton to the list as well and maybe Tom Curran. Our top order and middle at times is a total shambles and if we had played mostly bowlers in the NZ tests we would have been no worse off batting with more bowling options.

That is the whole thing. Two and three have been problem areas for ages now. I think the England hierarchy would like to see Hameed come good for opener, but he seems to have stalled ( and the alternatives are awful).

Can we not give Livingstone a go

I'd like to see that as reports are he's good ... but what kind of batsman is he? To me he's a number 4 or 5 and our problem lies in number 2 or 3./

Perhaps Livingstone at 5 and Malan at 3 or, I hesitate to say this, Root at 3 although he's having a bad time at the moment.

Root at three always seems like a last resort. Perhaps Malan, with Livingstone down the order.

I'm still not totally convinced, its a fair argument like which can't disagree too much with

Basically my view is we need to get a new test coach, possibly a new captain too, 2 absolute hard buggers who will install an attitude of grinding it out. I'd absolutely love Nasser to be in charge of the test side, as he is exactly what we need. But maybe even Flower again. The players need guidance, not just a "go out and play" attitude that Bayliss brings (which is good for the ODIs)

We are shocking at the min but there is still so much good with the side with Root , Bairstow and Stokes. I hoping Leach can get a good run and solve the spinning issue, just by being a solid enough bowler.

We have plenty of shot makers, really think we need to find players who can just grind out, have the attitude. If we move Jonny and Stokes up for example, we'd just have more shot makers at 6 and 7 again, which I am not convinced will change much

Bairstow is a hell of a player, but he is still pretty loose and will get out a lot cheaply, which is not what you want at number 4.

Thought I would share but if you have already read it, ignore this

I nearly copped for a million quid today for an outlay of 50p

I had four spot on results on sky's soccer six, the tiebreaker of four mins for the first goal scored. It was on with 20 mins to go, but I bottled my online bet but got over a grand

Would have £750 grand online and sky's £250 grand. I was literally shaking as the goals went in today

Looks like another beautiful weather day

Game about to recommence

Haway bairstow get the ton and hopefully we can sneak 350
