So what it reads.... Bloke says to club... I'll buy the club..... The owners say show us your funds... The prospective new owner stalls and stalls then can't come up with the full amount by the deadline set

Surely to God, no one can blame the owners for not selling to him

These were the blokes whose proof of funds were the clubs own parachute payments man. Why should we believe a word that comes out of their mouths? Think we know by now not to take Stewy and Charles’s words verbatim.

Can't see anything in that article that would roadblock EFL sanctioning the deal for Monsieur Dreyfus. Looks like this guy spat his dummy out and took far too long submitting the proof of funding and when it came through it was bobbins

“Following discussions in the late summer, Matthew Pauls submitted an acceptable bid for the acquisition of Sunderland AFC, as have several other bidders before and since.

“He was subsequently advised that Proof of Funds would be the necessary next step before the bid was submitted to the EFL.

“For two months, that Proof of Funds document was not forthcoming, despite numerous requests.

“In the absence of that, but having promised to sell the club, the Board decided to proceed with another option, at a lower valuation but with strong proof of funds.

“Eventually, in mid-December Matthew Pauls sent a Proof of Funds document insufficient to cover the agreed purchase price, let alone the amount required by the EFL to fund the club going forward.

“The funds were also in the name not of Mr Pauls but of an unknown third party individual.

“At that point - despite the original offer theoretically being an attractive one for the vendors - it would have been irresponsible with regards to the club to persist in discussions with Mr Pauls when there was a solid, transparent, well-financed option on the table."

Never heard of him but if he's gone straight to suing SAFC it doesn't sound like he ever had SAFC's best interests at heart. Sounds like a chancer, looks like a wanker. Already hate him.

shame he couldn't use our parachute payments for this

Ah, so THIS is the other deal they referred to when they said they'd "chosen this deal over other higher offers as it was in the best interest of the club".
When what they meant was "the other big was a fairy story, because they didn't actually have the money".

Even when Donald tells the truth, he manages to spin it into a lie!

It seems very similar to Storey...and Campbell actually.

Proof of funds was Satori's. Gave him 20% of the club for a quid in return. "Found a piggy bank inder the bed" was Donald's expalnation of it. Incredible.

Looks to me like nothing legally binding was ever signed. He's just miffed at being gazumped. Heads of agreement is not the same as contract for sale. It's more like when you accept an offer for your house, and then all the searches, etc happen. Either side can do what they hell they like up until exchange of contracts.

I get that, particular with regards to buying property but, isnt there a period of exclusivity when an NDA is in place? Or not necessarily?
