Without doubt we are both fortunate to have lived through both eras.
Probably safer away from home with your numbers but less safer with ours.
Scary moments and no way would I have taken my kids back then.

Those days from back then will live with me forever. My “patch” of terrace on the TownEnd - probably some of the best days of my life.
It had to change but just glad I can take those memories with me. Still gives me that tingle in the spine, made me the loyal supporter I am today.
Great post Mate.
Yes marra different for you. Back then when you could turn up and pay on the gate most of the time, we took massive numbers just about everywhere. There were times when we didn’t and we ran the gauntlet but most of the time, if we were up for it, we just took over places.
Great Days, for me, the one thing that will always be Premier League about our club is our support.
Second to no one.

I get it Mate.
The clubs like Sunderland, Both Sheffield’s, Pompey etc were the big scalps.
At home no real issues but away from home surprising what locals would turn up and the ensuing mob that would get together and have a go.
Some scary moments without doubt and living outside of Swindon and as a young lad going by train made it even scarier as we would be going back with the away fans. More problems with friendly fire than away fans.
Made you grow up fast and you learnt the right roads, routes and times to take.

Most eventually gave it up due to bans or grief from the Mrs etc. Some still get to the games (pre virus) just to watch the lads like the rest of us. Some sadly no longer with us. A fair few were in Blackpool the night of the postponed game last season.

There's a photo on Twitter (i think) of a load of the older lads down the Blackpool game..a load of them went to Millwall the year before anarl..the Police were watching them and once they'd got to New Cross the Police stopped them to see who had tickets and who hadn't.

SAFC RULE OK,

I'm sitting here smiling thinking back on the good times we had, he had me laughing so much many a time that it hurt, I miss him loads 😟

Yip, little story on Greavsie.
We used to work in a factory in Boldon, shit place to work, anyway, it was more Sunderland with a few skunks thrown in as John used to say...a couple of mags who worked there were Gremlins, John would argue the toss with them week in week out, more banter than anything else, sometimes it became heated and John used lose the plot, he had a few 'talks' with the gaffers on his weekend activities.
I always said Ginge couldnt fight his way out of a paper bag, but i know from stories retold from the Jacksons lads, he was game as fuck.
