What a player he is turning into.

Dont want to put the kiss of death on the lad but his batting is perhaps the best in the club ATM. The only worry of course with all of this is that once he gets his leggies right England will come calling and he would be a really big miss. Great fielder as well.

His first class average is starting to climb now and is comparable with Colly's.

He was the best batter for the whole of last year and I think the year before too although I an't remember that clearly, I think he got 1300 runs in 2013.

Also his centuries have been getting bigger, I think he's got 2 at 200+ (again I can't recall clearly).

Wouldn't worry, he's never going to develop as a leg spinner bowling five overs a game...
TBF this time of the year up here he'll not get much of a look in. Be interesting too see how he does later on.

Thought it was much the same at home last season. He bowled most his overs at Old Trafford iirc.
I honestly dont know what the position is with the lads bowling. When he first came in it was as a leg spinner. His batting was an after thought. Its a bit like Richardson. He came in as a wickie and has turned into a batsman (admittedly going through a rough patch ATM).

He will not get enough overs to become a good spinner. He'd be better off just knocking it on the head.

Borthwick is fast approaching becoming the most effective championship batsmen the county has produced. He may not be as eye catching or powerfull as Stokes or Stoneman but is far more consistent. He is also well past being a one season wonder.
Good to see him bat so well in the 2nd innings after getting smacked on the head in the first innings and not appearing to loose any confidence. I remember Nicky Peng looking a fabulous talent and getting sconed by Vasbert Drakes and never looking the same player against the short ball, albeit he was still a teenager.

If he has any ambition to play for his country, he needs to be bowling. England has no shortage of good, young middle order batsmen.

...and are struggling for a quality spinner. Tredwell man.

He should have moved counties then. There is little point in trying to become an international spinner playing here with our battery of quicks - he just isn't required.

The sad truth. Graeme Swann said as much.

I thought his decision to play in Sri Lanka was shrewd, but seems he hardly bowled there either!

Pietersen, Bell and Trott? ;)

The national side was crying out for a front line spinner and he did himself no harm whatsoever in Sydney. Even Ansari has overtaken him now...

I thought playing in that Sydney test match did him no good what so ever. England where out for the count well before the final test and Scotty looked out of his depth with bat ad ball. That would have been a good one to miss.

Took four wickets. Some of them a bit fortuitous but a good caught and bowled to remove Rogers. He got whacked all around but so did Stokes, Rankin and co. I have seen worse debuts, Kerrigan obviously springs to mind.

Scottie had a good year with the ball in 2013 - took more wickets than most 1Div spinners and with a decent average. He was better than Monty for instance and he was selected for the Aus tour.

Last season he went backwards. His problem is there's always at least one half-tracker and full toss per over.

should be in the England team now for his batting

Instead of who?

His bowling just muddies the waters. It isn't good enough and wont be good enough. He is a cracking batsman who may well get a chance over the next year given the amount of international games in that period but it will be down to being good enough to warrant his place with the bat. He will be a bowling option only in the same way Steve Smith is.

There has been a lot worse debuts, but in the long run it still would have been a good one to miss especially on debut.
