Scocco

So we spunked our January transfer budget on someone who was never going to be match fit before the last few games? And highlighted him as someone for the following season? And then sell him?

Heads should roll for this kind of shite
So you suggest we should sack Gus then. As I recall Scocco was 100% GP's.
RdF was out of the picture.

Scocco is proven in a decent league and Nunez wasn't even the right player, the two can't be compared.
Obviously Scocco hasn't been proven in a decent league. He's another disaster of a signing that is on the head of the current management. Players are should be scouted not just on ability but their profiles should include all aspects of their personality, attitude, motivation and mentality which is what several previous managers have gone on about. Obviously Poyet got this one very wrong like Di Fanti got so many other foreign imports wrong previously.

The money we waste on players is unbelievable if you include not only their transfer fees but all the add ons like wages, agent fees, accommodation etc. Ellis Short should keep tight hold of the expenses as too many managers in the past have spent his money like it was monopoly money.

tbh that could have gone a lot worse. No doubt the agent will make out he's a del boy but most likely Nacho strutted off the plane, shit his pants in his first Prem match and has been crying to go home ever since.

Angeleri seems to be doing alright in Spain now... and Da Silva's been starting over there too.

We did sign Julio who was class.

As for Scocco... he didn't look great, but he didn't look fully fit and didn't get much of a chance (we couldn't afford to). He may have come good, he might not have... better players than him have failed in England (Forlan, Veron, etc.)

Paolo Da Silva? Who played one season for Zaragoza, got relegated, and has been playing in Mexico for the last two seasons? That Da Silva?

And Angeleri has only played 15 games as well.

Sorry state of affairs BUT...

...if we hadn't signed him he wouldn't have been on the pitch to play that reverse pass to Giaccherini, who wouldn't have put in a peach of a cross for Wickham, who wouldn't have scored his first goal of the season to get us back in the match and kickstart the great escape.

A small contribution, but an ultimately important one.

One of the most bizarre, pointless transfers I've seen us make. Even rade prica had more of an impact.

He would have been 5th choice behind Sow, Wickham, Fletcher, Altidore next season, not sure where he would have fit into the team.
If we can recoup all the money we paid it's good business.
:)

Not as bad imo. He was more like the type of player we needed where Graham gave us nothing. Also unlikely to be on £40k p/w and still has a reputation in Argentina so we should be able to dispose of him. A failure, granted, but not in the same league as the Graham transfer.
Graham made more of an impact than Scocco.

And Graham will continue to make an impact on our wage bill for the next two years whereas we will be out of the Scocco deal relatively unscathed. The reason why the Graham deal was worse is the financial impact but also the fact that there was clearly no sense whatsoever in the deal before it was signed. He gave us nothing that we needed so desperately at the time (pace, mobility, strength) and there was little prospect of him forming any kind of partnership with the players already on the books. At the very best he is a lesser reserve for Fletcher - a player who was already struggling to fit into a team in the role that was defined for him. At least with Scocco he has the sort of attributes that we could use (pace, trickery etc) and was able to play a few positions in theory. It's just that for whatever reason, be it fitness or difficulty with the culture, he has been unable to settle.

Crikey that's tenuous but I fully applaud your optimism.

He wasn't fully fit or given the time really although I can see why he wasn't given a run in the side with our situation and unable to gamble but he is obviously a proven goal scorer it just didn't work out for him here. I'm hoping Altidore has a good pre season and gets going because I still have faith in him even if others don't, his confidence was shattered, get your arm around him Gus and take him under your wing.

No, he isn't. Not in a top league.
